What if a hundred people showed up to an ice raid dressed like chuds with plate carriers and masks. Can't be impersonating an officer if they don't have uniforms

Realizing one of the reasons I may have become so bad at responding to texts is that Samsung's keyboard is the worst piece of shit I've ever used and I dread having to type anything with it

weigel's a shit in general so whatever, no point to caring what he thinks, but also there's this mindset about immigration law that passes through plenty of regular ass people's minds, that we gotta enforce it.

and have never considered we *made* many formerly normal things w/immigration illegal.

what is a 'crime' here stops being that if all these things were rolled back. this isn't a 'no duh, it stops breaking the law if it's not a crime anymore' thing, it's that what we criminalized with immigration did not actually hurt anyone, it was *not* a problem. we *made it* a problem.

"Abolish ICE is a terrible slogan with no plan behind it and only dumdum idealists can't understand that"

*sees a single poll saying people are turning against ICE*

"I got a bit heated yesterday but what I ACTUALLY meant was...."
Yeah, I got too snippy yesterday, but I'm mostly saying: They need an answer. Shuffling their feet and saying "we're working on that" when they get asked to respond to the "abolish ICE" demand won't do it. (1/2)
I think "abolishing ICE, putting internal enforcement in the hands of the U.S. Marshal Service and making it passive enforcement only" is probably the way to go.

Still thinking about the guy yesterday who said Democrats should say they would keep ICE but make them promise to use their enormous budget to start an internal investigation unit

Watching videos of these shootings, I'm struck by how they mirror the kind of gunfire that's common in cop shows--with officers firing recklessly at suspects' cars.

Which I think speaks to both ICE's lack of training and the way cop-aganda media can erode our ability to see each others' humanity.
“.. In the last four months alone, immigration officers have fired on at least nine people in five states and Washington, D.C. All of the individuals targeted in those shootings were, like the woman killed on Wednesday, fired on while in their vehicles.”
