For me it's honestly a relief! Maybe because this is how my family is, but also bc I am always worried that I am talking too much or long, and this conversational style doesn't let that happen. It feels like engaged listening (when it's truly riffing and not a "anyway back to me" thing!)

It's incredible!! As soon as I saw Evan described as feral I was like "oh girl same." From a kid who used to run around barefoot in the Washington woods to make his feet tough enough to walk over blackberry vines, this book is amazing. I can't wait for more folks to get to read it!

Ahh my first cover reveal!! HUGE huge thank you to the team at Macmillan for working with me on this project! It's my first-ever MG cover and a huge dream to paint as a person who really IDed with the main character of this gorgeous novel and also as a certified bird lover.

and that isn't to like... dismiss the actual lived scariness of it. it's tough to be other ( a way in which I am lucky, living in the college town I do) and it's a real strain, as you wrote about here. but also when it's just you and the grass and the sky and the critters? it's so good.

It's incredible to live in the woods (more or less) surrounded by so much abundance!! I love this bc there really is something about being queer and rural. It seems scary on paper but it's so good. the community is unmatched for me.

Also, I adore the area I live. There are farms and local flour and pawpaws and more trans people than I've ever been around at once. I live by waterfalls and moss and mushrooms and ramps! You can pry this life from my cold dead hands! I'm terrified but this life is worth fighting for.

I have an incredibly strong local community where I am, and am the most supported I've ever been in my life, both personally and professionally, and it's only growing stronger. It's both that I know I'm safer surrounded by people who want to keep me safe, and also that I want to keep THEM safe.

I'm all set up for my fave show of the year, which is of course Ithaca's Applefest!! squeezed in time to make a glow in the dark painting 👀 making these lil ones is such a nice break from more complicated picture book stuff!
