Kemi Badenoch is absolutely right about this.

At the time she hacked Harriet Harman's emails it was an offence carrying a prison sentence of up to five years

Today seems like a good day to remember that climate action is far cheaper than inaction, according to those lentil weavers at the OBR
NEW: Getting to net-zero will be much cheaper than thought for the UK – and unchecked global warming far more costly, says OBR

Quick piece / thread with 4 key charts showing, yet again, why climate action is far less costly than inaction

Paracetamol remains an important option to treat pain or fever in pregnant women.

Following rigorous assessment of the available scientific data, we find no evidence that taking paracetamol during pregnancy causes autism in children.

Pakistan’s rooftop solar boom shows how energy transitions often start from the bottom up.

I told Christian Science Monitor @csmonitor.bsky.social: when tariffs soar and panel prices plunge, people innovate.

www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia-S...
Pakistan is sold on solar. It’s not about going green.
Conventionally generated electricity in Pakistan has become very expensive, but consumers don’t have to buy it. They are adopting solar panels.

It's shocking how much consensus there is amongst tax policy wonks and economists of Left and Right on the tax reforms the UK needs to boost growth & make the tax system fairer

More shocking: they're reforms that are never mentioned by any politicians

Stop talking about wealth taxes — make these reforms instead
Any sane discussion of changes that both right and left could agree on is being crowded out by tax populism

Nick Clegg accidentally hits on a free speech test for Americans.

Namely, if you enter the US/UK/EU, which of these might check your social media feeds to see if you're deemed a critic of the 'regime'? There's only one answer.

Screw Americans' criticisms of Europe-style free speech.

We need to act now. 🌳 🌎
Climate change could see more trees in cities to tackle heatwaves

In 2023, Amsterdam lowered the speed limit on 80% of city streets to 30 kmh (19 mph).

Since then:
🔹 Ped & cyclist crashes ⬇️ 15%
🔹 Car-related crashes ⬇️ 11%
🔹 Noise ⬇️ 5.5% (logarithmic)
🔹 Traffic ↔️ No change

60% of locals support the lower speed limits.

Reform should be ripped to shreds over this. The clean energy transition is incredibly popular.

Reform tells energy firms it would scrap their clean power subsidies
Richard Tice has written to firms giving them ‘formal notice’ that Reform would tear up contracts designed to boost green energy investment.

Surprised to see that the Telegraph, Times and Mail don't seem to have written up the study about LTNs cutting deaths and injuries by more than a third. I guess the PR email must have got lost or something. They're normally all so interested in the subject.

So no reductions in speed limits, no new cycle lanes. No reduction in road deaths. Though it will be abolished before too long, so a small mercy.

Yep: Researchers commissioned by TfL found that 78% of disabled people are able to cycle.

And 64% of respondents to a 2021 @wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk survey reported that, for them, cycling is easier than walking.

The notion that no disabled people can cycle, do cycle or want to cycle is a myth.
«Cycling isn’t for everyone»

Sure, but judging by the number of people I see cycling while carrying crutches, it certainly seems to be for a lot of people who struggle to walk.
