I remember sitting in a Sociology class in 1998 and discussing vouchers. The professor asked everyone who would benefit the most from the program and after a dozen or so thoughtful answers shook her head and said, “families who already have their kids in private schools.” The rich always find a way.
The TN GOP doesn't want its constituents to know that most of the vouchers they are paying for are going to the affluent who already had their kids in private school and that what they said about what vouchers would do -- give parents "choice" -- was a lie.

Tonight I had to tell my 17 year old we can’t afford her dream college. This is a kid who struggles in school for a number of reasons and has worked her ass off to get accepted. I know *looks around* it’s not the end of the world and she’ll end up somewhere, but shitty parenting moment all the same.

Not at all surprised to learn that Bad Bunny has a historical adviser. His halftime show was a reminder that our history and culture are deeply intertwined with the rest of the western hemisphere. We should think of his performance as part of #America250. #SuperBowl

NEW: A baby held in immigration detention became so sick, she had to be rushed to a hospital in severe respiratory distress.

“She was at the brink of dying,” a lawyer told me.

But the girl didn’t go home after her 10-day hospital stay; instead, ICE put her and her mother back in lock up at Dilley.

The 18-month-old was sent back to a South Texas facility after days in intensive care with severe respiratory distress, according to a federal lawsuit.

This is 20 min from my house. When I used to think of Burlington, it was for the mall. Now all I picture is a concentration camp in an office park and thinking of shopping and eating turns my stomach. The town needs to do much more to enforce its zoning and close this facility.
Concentration camps: stories of as many as 50 people to a cell — men and women in some cases — with no windows and limited airflow, a single camera-monitored toilet, aluminum blankets, no showers and poor quality food.

Trump referring to the first Black President and First Lady in the history of the USA as apes is not a distraction. It is a major news story once again emphasizing how fundamental racism is to this administration and the Republican Party and conservative movement.

And right now media is ignoring.
