I'm no one special. But I see so many people seeming to give up already. NO! NO NO NO! It's not over. As long as one person keeps the flame of freedom and love for neighbor alive, the powers that be HAVE NOT WON! Nemik's Manifesto, from Andor, is worth reading, and remembering:
There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.

I am currently reading Bonhoeffer's Black Jesus by Reggie Williams, and it is a lovely antidote to metaxas's Bohoeffer
bleaktheology.bsky.social
With the Trump administration targeting antifascism, what does that mean for Metaxas's Bonhoeffer?

This is awful. Gender care saves lives
awjt.bsky.social
In Glasgow, there is a 224-year waiting list for gender clinic appointments.

224 YEARS.

This is institutionalised discrimination. It's unacceptable, it's ruining people's lives and it needs to change.

We have the solution. Time for politicians to act.
Gender Clinic Files: Some people in Scotland will never get a gender clinic appointment on a 224-year waitlist. This system is failing to support people to transition not because it is broken, but by design. The frustrating thing is that this would not be a difficult problem to solve under a different political paradigm.

Trans+ people do not need to be assessed by gender clinics or diagnosed by psychiatrists to tell us what we already know: we are trans. The healthcare we need, especially when it comes to hormones, is already available to cis people through making an appointment with their GP.

Gender clinics are unnecessary and exist to segregate healthcare for Trans+ people. Abolishing this system and providing Trans+ healthcare in primary care, at the GP through an informed consent model, would solve many of the issues this data reveals. GPs already prescribe hormones to cis adults. Trans+ adults simply need the same access to this healthcare.

A story about Bostonians.

In Maine in 1773, John Malcolm was tarred and feathered for the first time. He pissed off some sailors, and the sailors poured the tar (which was actually pine sap 99% of the time, NOT asphalt as we all picture) and feathers OVER his clothes. 1/?

This is why I've started referring to my own spirituality as neo-Celtic Christianity. I'm Protestant, and I like the egalitarianism, and the environmentalism, and I recognize that this was not how it originally was.
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
there's a largely imagined 'celtic christianity was a softer, gentler version until the Roman Church came along' which honestly isn't based on much.
andrewsshi.bsky.social
I'm definitely the person on the left whenever people bring up "Celtic Christianity." Although as someone who'd like to be young but isn't, I should also emphsasize that the Celtic thing is less Boomer than it is Xers who grew up on Mists of Avalon-type stuff.

Yes, there's no right to treatment without a parent or guardian's consent, and medical rights are often retained by birth parents even for children in foster care.

In some states this has been taken to an even greater extreme, with teens unable to get mental health support w/o parental consent.
Idaho law requires teens to seek parental consent for suicide hotline

Tweet from Brianna Wu (@BriannaWu) reading: “I think I’m moving on from Twitter. You can literally call for my death here and when I report, it doesn’t break any policies. It is horrific what Elon Musk has turned this place into, a forum where the right calls for the medical and physical genocide of trans people.”

I'd argue that most people don't read. I mean, the average reading level is 5th grade, and the median is four - and believe me, there are a lot that never touch a book. So they've learned very little because they haven't learned anything.
jdh37.bsky.social
I thought something similar after seeing a whole shelf of books at a shop on WWII and other 20th century history. It was a little depressing seeing how we seemed to have learned from it.

Here's what frightens me: If they get away with silencing people over CKirk, and they are, is the next step silencing any criticism of the current regime?
