While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI:

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.

AI impoverishes us at every step of the process:
- data centers pollute our environment
- energy use drives up costs
- content theft robs creators of income
- the actual output is used to displace workers and depress wages
- using it harms our mental health and impairs our competence
- the flood of AI slop is damaging our sociopolitical landscape

All in service of making a worse product - and world - to enrich a handful of already spectacularly wealthy people

Just saw this great post again and it reminded me of my old beef against "spoilers don't matter, a good film isn't spoilable": The timing with which information is revealed is important in every movie! It's as much a part of the art as dialogue or lighting,it matters at least as much as aspect ratio

Almost done with season 1 now, and delighted with where they take that character. I guess you could argue she's too much of a "fierce protective mother" stereotype, but I love how her kindness and awkwardness plays against the expectations created by her introduction and the sharp, angular design

Absolutely. I don't think I've ever played a game before that synergises its dash, run and jump in quite this way, and I'm really glad Team Cherry incentivised me to understand it through that runback, or else I'm not sure I ever would've gotten my head around it

If it's any consolation (probably not), getting that runback down made such a difference for the rest of the game for me. I struggled a bit with the run before that, but learning to time and control the running jumps in order to not have to engage with the pointy-headed bastards was a game changer

The ads on the DoA site are making the page load like molasses. I support the comic by buying the collections, so I'd prefer not to have to double dip with the Patreon in order to read the dailies (without running adblockers). Any chance you could take a look at the site to make it run better?

Yup.

Sometimes people use "respect" to mean "treating someone like a person" and sometimes they use "respect" to mean "treating someone like an authority"
and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say "if you won't respect me I won't respect you" and they mean "if you won't treat me like an authority I won't treat you like a person"
and they think they're being fair but they aren't, and it's not okay.

If you base an entire video around a verbatim reading, you should do more than credit, honestly. Paying for a patreon sub yourself and urging your audience to support independent news outlets should be the minimum.

Oof. Their model seems designed to curtail the utility of the digital storefront as the most easily, universally available way not only to read, but to market and sample single issue comicbooks. Introducing scarcity into that model is such an instant turnoff (and their storefront is awful to boot)
