Excellent journalism from my colleague Xander Elliards, looking at the Sandie Peggie verdict and which parts of haven't received much media attention.

From Peggie harassing Dr Upton, to racist jokes and her evidence being deemed "not credible", there is a LOT.

#AshmoleanAdvent Day 10: Evening Snow at Kiyomizudera

This woodblock print shows a view from inside the Kiyomizudera Temple in Kyoto on a snowy evening by Kawase Hasui.

Snow falls steadily, forming drifts on the wooden balcony. Through the pillars, two figures can be seen looking out.

"Trans people are often told that ‘we have always been here’, but it's rare to see that laid out in a way where we feel lifelike. It's one thing to show idealized images of past figures; it's another to make them feel real."

Review: 'Gendertrash from Hell' Makes Trans History Feel Brand New
Gendertrash from Hell manages to take the words of the past and make them feel as if they were written yesterday.

Me, in The Guardian today:

"This is a moment that requires bravery in standing up for what is right. Organisations that value trans people should know not just that the law is on their side – but so, also, are many people who will step up to defend them if they have the courage to take a stand."
The WI and Girlguiding have been pressured to exclude trans women – yet the law is clear as mud | Jess O’Thomson
Since the supreme court decision, organisations have faced lobbying and legal threats. But trans people are protected by discrimination law too, says Jess O’Thomson of the Good Law Project

Family round for dinner tonight, will be make a favourite dish - “daler bora” (lentil fritters). Possibly the most delicious vegan deep fried food, far superior to falafel. Mum used to grind the lentils with a rolling pin, which took much more time and effort than food processor I’ll be using (1/n)

What evidence is there that uplands like this were once covered by temperate rainforest, and would return to such a state naturally but for sheep?

One of the really funny things about portrayals of the Medieval period that have every peasant wearing brown and black is those colors were actually really expensive compared to blues, reds, and yellows

Did you know a "jiffy" is a real unit of time? Physicists define it as the time it takes light to travel a distance of one femtometre, which is a millionth of a millionth of a millimetre. This was my co-author's favourite fact she learned from working on "About Time". Read more in this interview:

The 25th of November is St Catherine's feast day.

"This isn't about God,
the stained-glass legends of broken wheels, the barrowload
of miracles, or the dinner-plate halo they will nail to your head.

Under the gospel,
the truth of it: woman answers back, ends up dead."

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Trans people have literally always been here; every time I see someone sneering "oh but there were no trans people when I was in high school," well. I dated a trans girl in high school, and was close friends with a trans guy.
