Legendary founder of NPR programming Bill Siemering is enjoying Zoom visiting with students so much that he's asked me to put a second call out. No honorarium necessary. Any takers?
Bill Siemering, founding program director of NPR, author of its mission statement, has asked me to inquire if any profs might be interested in a Zoom class visit? No honorarium necessary. Bill founded All Things Considered, Fresh Air, won a MacArthur, etc.

Wondering what pilots or aviation events you know or would like to know more about. More on Earhart? More modern pilots? Space? Something else? Looking for a new project and interested in what people know/dont know/want to know.

It's wild how much the world has changed.

It's been a year today since we lost my beautiful mom. It's still impossible to believe we are just supposed to go on without her or Dad who we lost in 2011.

A question for DC-area and other Bluesky history folks:

Has the interpretive marker been removed from the site of the former Confederate Memorial at Arlington National cemetery?

That's a DOD site, not NPS. But it would seem objectionably factual too, esp. given plans to restore the memorial.

All the developments of the past week underscore for me how odd it is that National Parks coverage is typically isolated within some kind of environment/climate team in the newsroom.
Some of the specifics in this article are so infuriating. They had to remove photos of retreating glaciers at Glacier National Park. There’s not even an effort to deny that all the content being censored is true, it just makes the White House feel bad. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...
More history exhibits pulled from nationals parks, including Grand Canyon
A new wave of takedown orders from Trump officials targets signs about climate and Native Americans at several national parks, including Big Bend and Glacier.

Teaching my 20th century through film course this spring. I have a good list but would love to hear your ideas. Goal is films that influence public memory of period or event and can tell us something about the times in which they were made. Thanks for ideas in advance!

Magic Johnson was the grand marshal of the Rose Parade today, and as someone who remembers his November 1991 HIV announcement: if you had told anybody that day that he would be alive and healthy 34+ years later, I don't think they would have believed you. Medicine and research—they work.

I just don't understand people who are passive- aggressive. I much prefer being aggressive-aggressive. You always know where you stand with someone who is aggressive-aggressive, can really work out problems/conflict and move on. Passive-aggressive is a waste of time and energy. Be happy. Be honest.

Archivists/librarians please share the coolest thing in your collections that will never be digitized.
I live in the heart of California gold country. One of the richest mines ever in CA is nearby. Opened circa 1860 closed 1942. A local foundation has preserved the records on site. I know not a stitch has been digitized and am confident no more than 2 pro historians have ever been in there.
