THIS. Thank you, Professor McMillan Cottom (with a heavy sigh and a smh).
Higher Ed, in particular, should have fought 2FA on personal phones and removing our office phones tooth and nail for this reason.
I think it was @tressiemcphd.bsky.social who was insistent that we decouple our online work lives from our online personal lives and here's data point one million supporting that theory. A lot of people can't ditch google for work functionality, but separating out personal accounts gives you options

Alums, time to organize LOUDLY on behalf of your educators.

And alums with any access to donor cash— all the more so.

I cannot stand the "this is a good start" discourse. The Democrats in Congress do not want to abolish ICE. They have proposed a series of bog-standard reforms regurgitated by a think tank. Everyone knows they do not work. The Democrats supporting this do not care. They just want to move on.

Audre Lorde, in a 1989 commencement address, said, "Remember this, despair is a tool of your enemies. That rumor, 'You can’t fight City Hall,' is circulated by City Hall. Facing the realities of our lives gives us the motivation for action, it gives us the power to change. You are not powerless."

Arresting journalists.

Fatally shooting protestors.

Turning the military on citizens.

Attempting to rig elections.

Toying with the idea of declaring martial law.

If this were happening in another country, what would you call it?

Citing fear of ICE, pregnant immigrants in Minnesota are

-skipping prenatal care
-requesting home births, even when not medically advised
-going w/o adequate food

Many are experiencing complications providers say can be stress-onset: diabetes, high blood pressure, and even water breaking early
Fear of ICE is keeping pregnant immigrants in Minnesota from critical care
Health care providers in Minnesota said pregnant patients are having more complications linked to stress. But fear of immigration agents is keeping them from prenatal care.

I visited hotels all over Minneapolis, went into back rooms & talked to the staff.

They're afraid.

One told me she resents how her undocumented coworkers spend their days cleaning the rooms of agents who are “hunting down their family members.”

Minneapolis’ Hotel Workers Are on Edge
Staff across the city told NOTUS how their lives have changed since the start of the federal immigration operation. “It's frightening,” one said.

-DHS won’t cooperate; is ignoring court orders now
-“The border” is a 100mile zone inland encompassing 2/3 of the population including LA, NY, PHI, etc
-We’ll never see the body cam footage, you idiots, you absolute shits
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

A Dem Senator’s Harsh Takedown of Trump Hits Home: “Breaking Point”
As Trump scrambles to contain the damage from the latest ICE horrors, Senator Chris Murphy offers a sharp indictment of Trump-ICE lawlessness—and explains how Dems can meet the urgency of the moment.

If putting your body on the line against ICE is not a physically safe or viable option for you right now, that is okay.

But if you have the privilege of being safe and warm in this moment, there are other ways to resist. Do not look away.

Universities have had plenty of time to prepare to comply, but by & large have prioritized other things over of the needs of students. Fits right in with the higher ed industry standards of today. 😡

$$ is certainly an obstacle for many IHEs, but again, look where the $$ they *do* have gets spent.
Higher Ed Prepares for New Era of Accessibility

Looming federal regulations update the ADA to make web content and mobile apps more accessible to people, including college students, with disabilities. But universities are scrambling to comply by the April deadline. https://bit.ly/4qY3Idk

If there’s a teacher in your students’ life who is making a positive impact on their learning, please send them an email, class dojo message, Remind, etc

It’s REALLY hard to keep going right now and a little kindness can go a long way.

telling the secret police they have immunity to harm & kill citizens really lays bare the hollowness of decades of right-wing GOP screeching about encroaching Big Government - it was never a problem they had with government per se, just that it wasn't being used to harm the people they wanted to

Anything less than abolishing ICE is unacceptable. I don't want to hear people talk about training these motherfuckers or throwing more money at them. The entire institution needs to be permanently disbanded. Do not let politicians sell you on anything less.

I realize that every word that comes out of his mouth is outrageous in one way or another but unambiguously framing execution as a legitimate response to disrespect is still noteworthy
Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

When Vance insists, contra the videos, that Good threatened the ICE agent and "had it coming", what he means is that he, like Ross, feels threatened by any woman who has the audacity to use her voice in the public sphere.

This deeply misogynist worldview is core to MAGA.

Me personally, I’m not gonna be watching the video.

But, louder than ever:

CHINGA LA MIGRA.
FUCK ICE.
The shooting marks a dramatic escalation of the latest in a series of immigration enforcement operations in major American cities under the Trump administration. It’s at least the fifth person killed in a handful of states since 2024.

CNN: “Surely you don’t think a daycare should be unlocked.”

SHIRLEY: “There should be a reception area.”

CNN: “No, every day care is locked.”

SHIRLEY: “Fair point.” 🤔
