Happy St Katherine's Day to all scholars, librarians, and Katherines. May you win an argument against an annoying man today, in the true spirit of Katherine herself.

Some of these movies are actual comedies. And some of them are comedies the way certain Shakespeare plays are comedies - like, well, there was a wedding at the end and no one died, I guess? So, sure, “comedy”, why not.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

This whooooole thread. Up and down.
And again, the “battle of the sexes” in terms of preventing harm from the other has largely been against men trying to remove women’s autonomy so women have no chance of harming them

Vs

Women trying to impose consequences for harm men actually do

Between Silk and Cyanide by Leo Marks

My heart was actually pounding while I read it and I ALREADY KNEW HOW IT ALL ENDED 😭
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

After the episode on TV Staffing Meetings, this is probably the second-most-useful podcast episode in existence.

“How to Never Struggle with Small Talk.” I KNOW!

This is from The Jefferson Fisher Podcast about communicating with confidence.

This was today's card*.

Salt. "Protection, banishing negativity."

I'm extending its influence to anyone who needs it.

My beloved orange boy was very seriously ill at the beginning of the month. He stopped eating and drinking for five and a half days, developed jaundice, threw some terrible liver numbers. He was nauseous and miserable for most of that time. 🧵

Tonight on #Forgotten90sFilms I'm watching Practical Magic (1998).

The IMDb summary is "Two witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love."

Which... sure. Close enough, I guess. 🧵

Is it even a craft project if you haven’t frogged some part of it all the way back to zero to start again? 😂😭🧶

Learning loss didn’t come from “lockdowns” or remote instruction.
It COMES FROM (still happening) illness.
Illness caused by COVID.
Illness that makes kids miss school and teachers miss teaching.
SICK DAYS. And the vascular damage that causes incapacity to think & retain.
This is still happening.
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

I don't often notice things like sound design in movies.

But when I was watching Dead Poets Society a couple of weeks ago, I kind of stumbled sideways into an example of the sound design running with the theme of the film in a really beautiful way. 🧵

I'm not a fan of Ben Elton, but there is one routine of his I think of on, like, a weekly basis. The Ministry of Crap Design. "It's got to be deliberate. Any idiot could design a working spout."

Anyway. The whole bit is on YouTube (of course it is) - minutes 2:09-7:03 at this link:

If you haven't seen Deadloch yet, it is a TON of fun. A murder mystery with an astonishingly high body count that is also hilarious.

Yes, Redcliffe is... a LOT, but she settles down a little after a couple of episodes, and you *will* end up loving her.

Highly recommended. Can't wait for season 2!
🚨Deadloch heads: S2 of the Aussie crime satire/drama (it's good!) arrives on Amazon Prime March 20. Many chaotic Aussie weirdos return/debut. But HEADS UP they have added a Hemsworth (Luke)! This is not a drill! Kudos to the hair & costume team for this whole deal. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/st...

Once a stage manager, always a stage manager - but there are some times I wish I could turn it off.

When there is a sick performer on stage, for example, and I am in the *audience* and cannot do anything about it. 😔
