I have no interest in policing other people's personal health choices in any way. If you're taking a GLP-1 and happy with it, then I'm happy.

But we're never going to be a country without fat people — or the need to treat each other with grace and humanity regardless of size.

Conservative and reactionary centrist media is trying to set up a narrative in which GLP-1s are some kind of existential threat to body positivity and fat activism.

It's bullshit. If you want to lose weight, go for it. But not everyone can or wants to — and they deserve equal treatment regardless.

Coloring has turned out to be substantially better for my mental health than I would have guessed? Everytime I want to tell either a blue dog or a firebomb brigade idiot on the internet to go to hell instead I color some animals being friends and I feel the peace of the Lord. Try it.

I told my kids that we can't go outside on President's Day, because on President's Day all dead presidents rise from their graves and grow to 100 feet tall, stomping across the countryside, roaring and shooting lasers from their eyes.

But each has their weaknesses. Lincoln is afraid of theaters.

The thing modern feminists have to negotiate is that sexism is literally everywhere. In every tradition. It’s in atheist/skeptic communities as much as religious ones. And there are liberatory interpretive strands in every tradition I’ve encountered.

One element of this that I think is important, for me personally, is that folks who have “changed sides” or “seen the light” shouldn’t be clamoring for positions of leadership. Someone who is radically changing opinions while still trying to lead reeks of self-serving false belief.

I would go as far as to say an idea that is done before I start writing it is not generally worth writing at all.

I’m often asked “What did you think of the movie?” on my way out of a theater, and while I dislike that question on principle, I am fortunate to know I am speaking the truth when I say “I won’t know until I’ve written about it.”

Writing is thinking.

It's not some marginal boring task you can skip. It's the heart of it.
It’s easy to think writing is mainly the transcription of ideas you already have—that is, until you try to write something worthwhile, and you find what you thought were saying transform into something far more interesting in the process. This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.

The editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer said it will use AI to ‘write’ its articles.

One of the priests at my parish once pointed out that in her travels she had been to places in the world and stayed with families who were so truly poor they shared one pot and has no electricity & afterwards she never called herself poor again because she had gained perspective. /1
