It's tempting to treat "the American right is a death cult" as rhetorical hyperbole, but when you look at e.g. their enthusiasm for executing people who are *clearly* innocent, no actually these people really do just worship and revel in death and murder

Yeah. It's hard in general to accept that we don't *really* have any control over people. People leave church for all sorts of reasons. Some return. Some find another church or denomination fits better right now. We can only be the best version of ourselves. That won't work for everyone always.

100% that's the unspoken part. Should we give up the gospel? Proclaiming resurrection? No. But that leaves a whole lot open to change if that change actually serves the saving of souls, which is, in tandum & in service to worship, the entire point of the church.

Today, I was asked how to pray for us in Chicago. I responded with a detailed list of ways they can engage with the justice issues using time, money, or influence.

White evangelicalism's belief that prayer *by itself* will change the world is messed up and dangerous. We gotta act *and* pray.⚓️

The "the church is dying" people always mean "the church as I experienced it at a meaningful point in my life is changing" to which I can only say: yes, that's right, theosis is an ongoing process & the Holy Spirit will help us meet each moment when it comes. Stop idolizing the past & join us.
