When Google search launched, people didn’t need to be berated into it. There was no “you better figure out some way to use this.” People just tried it, quickly saw it directed them to information they sought and helped them navigate the internet, and kept going back to use it more. Just sayin’.

Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

Someone recently asked me if I've ever said "No" to "do you need a receipt?"

Of course I have. Save a tree, right? They explained to me THAT is white privilege.

Someone who's maybe Black or brown, Indigenous, they need the receipt because they've all had experiences with "enforcement."

Slightly longer thoughts on the passing of Rob Reiner, and what a remarkable storyteller he turned out to be.

Rob Reiner, RIP
I don’t have much to add about Rob Reiner and wife Michelle Singer’s shocking death that other people haven’t said better, likewise any more to add about his career and political …

Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

Apropos to a post I'm not going to quote: no, you are not fucking obliged to battle the fucking right on fucking social media, or go to where they are. Why make yourself miserable shouting at bots (who don't care) or trolls (who get off on your misery). Make your fucking social media enjoyable, FFS.

Rob Reiner directed some of the most beloved movies of all time, including Stand By Me, This is Spinal Tap, and The Princess Bride. His production company also made movies like The Shawshank Redemption, Before Sunrise and Michael Clayton. The film industry has lost one of its titans.

I’m always saying the same shit and I mean it every time. In the age of soulless AI slop, nothing matters more than your voice, so write/create whatever makes you happy. Make it weird. Make it dark. Make it queer. Make it surreal, diverse, sexy. Make it political as fuck. Do YOU.

When a few Canada Post employees in Vancouver started answering letters to Santa in the early-1970s, it eventually led to the most famous postal code in Canada.
H0H 0H0.
Each year, thousands of letters to Santa from around the world are answered.
This is the story.

Very sorry to hear that Sophie Kinsella has died. She was one of the writers whose books gave me joy but also made me think, "Maybe I can do this, too." My first completed novel came from that Sophie-inspired conviction. I wish I'd told her that when she was alive.

Today, we remember the fourteen young women whose lives were stolen at Polytechnique Montréal 36 years ago.

Their names are a solemn reminder of the devastating toll of gender-based violence — and the responsibility that comes with our remembrance.

On this day 36 years ago, 14 people died at a Montreal university because some fragile fucking man couldn’t handle a woman “taking his place” in the engineering program.

Male rage isn’t a new problem. Entitled men aren’t a new problem.

And women are entitled to every ounce of anger we carry.
