Funny that the one fault Trump admits to is merely the irredeemability of his mortal soul.

Trump: "I don't think there's anything that's gonna get me in heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven."

Tim Curry was a 20-something stage actor living in London in the seedy, sex-drenched 1970s when he auditioned for a new B-movie musical called “The Rocky Horror Show.” In a new interview, Curry discusses the cult classic, David Bowie, Studio 54, and more. http://nyer.cm/Z9RkgrI

ICE in Chicago detained two people (that we know of) for filming them today, a cyclist and a neighborhood rapid responder. This in addition to tear gassing another neighborhood and brandishing weapons at rapid response—both things that have also already been going on for weeks.

I always go back to this scene. Not because Diane Keaton portrays her fear so vividly but because her understated reaction to seeing Warren Beatty is able to say more about love and closeness, about feeling relaxed and secure in somone's presence, than probably any other in movie history

STEPHANOPOULOS: I didn't insinuate anything. I asked you whether Tom Homan accepted $50k as was heard on an audio tape recorded by the FBI in September 2024. You did not answer the question. Thank you for your time.

VANCE: No, George, I sai--

Rewatching this brilliant, brutal scene and reminded that at the time GODFATHER II was released, marital rape was not a crime anywhere in North America. youtu.be/gxEvQwUJElc

I was never a huge Woody Allen guy even before it became clear what a creep he was, but I take it as a true reflection of how brilliant Diane Keaton was that 'Annie Hall' remains largely untainted in my eyes. #RIP

What better way to discourage someone from pursuing their art than people shredding virtuosically on camera for the sake of itself or being told there’s a six figure cost of entry to be able to make this type of art at all?

if i was as rich as thiel you'd never hear from me. i would live in a hyperbaric chamber like darth vader and siphon blood and other nutrients from my lackeys. i would certainly not be writing about how Monkey D. Luffy is a Christ figure like I'm trying to get a 2 on the AP English exam

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.
