Everyone in my district that's staying up for the game is relieved we have a two hour delay due to the whole coldest overnight low of the season yet. You know, after a whole week at home due to the storm and previous cold weather.

I just need to get potluck fixings before work.

Nothing has changed here.

So you might ask - how will we know when things have changed? For me it’s all the kids back in school.

I agree there is no way to rehab ICE and CBP, and abolition or radical change is needed.

But I also see ppl trying to defend this idea by saying “ICE only began in 2001” (it’s actually 2003), which… is only true-ish.

The ORG CHART of DHS (thus ICE, CBP, etc) began then. But not the concepts.

We had heavily armed ppl on the border and targeting immigrants before then. Recall iconic Elian Gonzalez picture—that’s pre-CBP border patrol in 2000, on an immigration raid.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t or can’t abolish ICE and transform CBP.

But they are more deeply entrenched than “2003.”

I just strikes me as potentially bad politics to frame something deeply entrenched as “new” bc we moved a bunch of lines on an org chart (like moving the Coast Guard into DHS or breaking INS up into ICE, CBP, and USCIS).

The flip side is I think emphasizing that DHS is just an org chart makes it EASIER to abolish that, and I think fracturing its pieces out of an over-militarized administration would do a tremendous amount of good.

I keep thinking about when Mike Johnson was asked about the NFL getting Bad Bunny to play the halftime show and he responded by saying they should find "someone who appeals to a broader audience" like... 82-year-old Lee Greenwood.

Really shows how much of a bubble the right lives in.

These guys will be like, "The left live in bubbles and are out of touch with the average person!" and then be like, "No, I haven't heard of the most popular musician on the planet. Instead, they should hire this ancient irrelevant right-wing crank."

It’s powerful. It’s gut-wrenching. And no one should have to survive what she did.

The fun thing about running a political campaign while also trying to get people excited about your new book that was planned long before the political campaign is that there aren’t enough hours in the day!

Anyways, I wrote another book, it’s awesome, please clap.
