I didn't really feel like going to choir practice tonight; I've been ill, I was tired, etc
But I'm really glad I did; banter and singing and the company of very old friends. SO curative!
Was worth the drive on a wet cold night, just to feel that comfort.

Look at how the fabric's painted. And I think Mary made the right decision to eschew jewellery on this instance, with all that glittery frou-frou on the shoulders.
Artist John Singer Sargent was born #OnThisDay in 1856. His 1892 portrait Mrs Hugh Hammersley, depicted Mary Hammersley in a cherry silk velvet gown trimmed with gold lace at the cuffs, hem and neck. Mary kept this fragment of the gown all her life. Met Museum collection. #fashionhistory

Christmas wish: private rail car. 🎄🚆

Private rail cars can still attach to Amtrak service—most people don't know this.

The point? Shared infrastructure. Coach, sleeper, or private car—it all depends on a functioning network.

Our living planet is being relentlessly annihilated on a scale that's beyond any understanding. It is literally the apocalypse, in our time.

Is that *all* we humans collectively amount to?

I believe we have the power to change.

I'd appreciate a spell of cold weather, a good sharp frost.
The gardens need it - freezing cleans the soil, improves soil structure, reduces pests, helps seeds to germinate.
We need some proper winter, before the spring.
Yes, I'm dreaming of a white Christmas!

Ever hear of "sharenting"? That's when parents overshare images and information about their children on social media. Ireland's Data Protection Commission really drives the point home with this short video:

"An Epilogue" by John Masefield, a poem so short it fits in a post:

And the gold cup won by the worst horse at the races

So I trust, too"
