i had a recipe from a “founding fathers” type joint in Philly years ago that incorporated semi-sweet chocolate, and it may sound wild but that slight bitterness reallllly evened out the syrupy sweetness and the pie was always a crowd pleaser
I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

this is the world's most confusing day for centrist Democrats who just voted to condemn socialism and tried to sink Mamdani's campaign for months
Trump on Mamdani: "I think he's gonna surprise some conservative people, actually. And some very liberal people he won't surprise because they already like him."

the “second amendment over all” people have been awfully quiet about our current administration who’s increasingly tyrannical by the hour
The President wants to kill people for exercising their first amendment right, looks like it’s time to exercise the 25th amendment and if necessary the 2nd amendment

there’s a lot that is already being said about Sarah Hurwitz’s wildly illustrative display of cognitive dissonance in this clip, but i’m hung up specifically on how she describes Jews during the Holocaust as “emaciated” and Palestinians in Gaza today as “skinny”
I'm struck by this clip of former Obama speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz saying Holocaust education has backfired in part because people Palestinians as victims: "They think the lesson of the Holocaust is…you fight the big powerful people hurting the weak people."

By characterizing abortion as health care, international orgs have pushed back against abortion exceptionalism. The World Health Organization recognizes that “[a]bortion is a simple health care intervention.” Numerous countries have adopted laws and policies to align with WHO recommendations.

The DHS operations have wreaked havoc but it’s also clear how the response from residents in different cities has created new networks, information exchange, disseminated resources. People that may not have paid attention to NC before now feel a stake & I think there’s something important in that.

There are a lot of industries that wil be able to bounce back and recover when this is all said and done. Journalism will not be one of them
Vanity Fair's West Coast Editor Olivia Nuzzi was a star political correspondent until scandal led her into exile—and to a California up in flames.

In an excerpt from her book, ‘American Canto,’ she takes stock of scorched earth.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.
