Minneapolis. Gen X mom to a preschooler. Government IT employee. She/her.
I think I’m allergic to my wedding ring and it’s making me so sad. This is the second time I’ve had a reaction in just a few months. I really love my ring so much and it took me months to find the perfect ring after we married.

In pjs with “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” playing. Angela Lansbury is wonderful.

Today I’m making, or already made: smoked Turkey, whole and jellied cranberries, corn bread stuffing, squash with maple and goat cheese and mashed potatoes. Also have a cheese tray, olives and picked herring.

My kid did two hours of Cosmic Kids Yoga today and I hope that’s enough activity for her to sleep tonight, but I sort of doubt it.

Eating a delicious lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant. It has a large alter, multiple Buddha statues and is blasting Christmas music. 🎶 Do they know it’s Christmas time at all? 🎶

Lots of articles in recently about how alcohol consumption is down and how that is bad for different businesses, but they never mention how GOOD it is for individual people and society. Many people die due to alcohol every year and others have their lives ruined www.startribune.com/twin-cities-...
With beer sales down, 15 ways Twin Cities taprooms are brewing up new customers
Yoga classes, magicians, saunas and (gasp) even jazz players are being used by breweries to draw customers as beer sales slump.

One of the dogs, or maybe both, were very mad we left them home this afternoon. Went into my crochet project bag, pulled out my bag of hooks, someone unzipped it nicely, then did this to these hooks. All the metal ones had a nice sleeve on them. How they got bent like this, I don’t know.

I bought Mrs Meyers Gingerbread hand soap. It doesn’t smell like gingerbread and leaves a strong lingering scent of Japanese curry on your hands for hours. I kept waking up in the night wondering why I smelled curry. 1/10, too strong and weird smelling.

I knew I didn’t want my labor to make money for someone else, so I got a government/union job. Started as entry level in the welfare office and ten positions later, I manage an IT project management office.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Got outside and hiked a bit. Two hours to go about a mile with the kid at Fort Snelling SP. Just too many cool things to look at to cover much distance.

Everything in this cookbook looks so good. Maybe I’m a Polish grandma at heart?

I always freeze when a medical provider asks what music I'd like to listen to. Today I had an MRI and for a couple seconds, I couldn't think of a single artist I liked. Then I heard "Wilco" pop out of my mouth, which was a surprise. Wilco is a good band, just not one I listen to much these days.

Went to the Cedar Ave reconstruction open house today. I want a slower, safer street that pedestrians can use. There were two very vocal older white dudes taking up a lot of space in the room. One telling everyone to scrap the whole project. The other bitching about not enough parking.

On my lunch break of this conference I’m getting second holes in my ears at this totally overpriced piercing studio at MOA. No one will have as productive lunch as me!

It’s terrible. The STEM magnet at MPS we were interested in only had 40% of the kids vaccinated. Amazes me that parents who don’t believe in science send their kids to a science magnet (though I know why this particular school is like this.)
Minnesota now has one of the nation’s lowest kindergarten vaccination rates

More Minnesota kindergartners have nonmedical exemptions for the MMR vaccine, especially at private schools.

Too many parents love to have their children suffer in unnecessary ways

Just a thought for those disgusted with the different streaming services,

PBS has an expanded service for a monthly donation.

This looks awesome. What a great project!
Owámniyomni Okhódayapi just announced the Dakota-led design for the restoration of five acres at Owámniyomni (St. Anthony Falls), adjacent to the Upper Lock on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Project construction is targeted to begin in spring 2026. Very exciting!

We are required under policy to call people by their preferred names, pronounced correctly. Not doing so can lead to discipline. So who keeps posting lists on the internal website with only legal names? HR does. And where does the complaint need to go about it- HR. Great system here.

We have season tickets to the Stages Theater, a children’s theater that mostly uses local kids in their plays. Today we saw “Spookly and the Christmas Kittens,” based on a Netflix cartoon. 🙄 The story was pretty awful but the performances were top notch. 5 year old loved it, which is the point.
