it's funny how many sci fi settings have a forbidden dangerous futuristic technology outlawed by some shit called The Cloning Accords of 2056 bc one clone somewhere killed somebody one time. like nah openAI invented a chatbot that tells you to kill yourself and it's the backbone of the economy

My mom told her physical therapist she wears a mask because her husband and daughter are immunocompromised. The PT said she is too but isn't worried bc she knows if she dies she is going to heaven. Then her co-worker yelled, “Shut up Debbie you wear a seatbelt and take blood pressure meds” 👀

Is Ryan Greene the long-term answer on Connor Bedard's wing? Maybe not. But he's holding his own and proving his worth, writes @scottpowers.bsky.social:

Ryan Greene fits the Blackhawks’ long-term plans. The unknown is exactly where
Ryan Greene didn't make the Blackhawks' roster to start the season. Now he's on the top line. Where will he eventually settle?

There is a certain kind of Catholic convert who thinks they are more Catholic than the Pope.
“In these lectures, Thiel doesn’t just flirt with the apocalyptic. He goes all in — openly discussing the Antichrist, naming Pope Leo XIV as a potential manifestation of that figure, and, most disturbingly, advising JD Vance to ignore the pope on moral matters altogether.”
In newly leaked audio, Peter Thiel admits he urged JD Vance to ignore Pope Leo XIV on moral questions — including the ethical development of AI.

He goes even further, branding Leo “the woke American pope” and suggesting he’s a tool of the Antichrist.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

My grandma "accidentally" set the oven to clean when my mom (her daughter) was making her "famous" meatloaf and we were forced to go out to eat instead.

Years later I asked her if she did it on purpose and she said "You've had your mother's cooking. What do you think"
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

This is probably, and unfortunately, true. I think big tech in particular (I think this is less true in normal firms, since the money makers in normal firms aren't usually the tech) aren't at home to the idea that tech opinions aren't the only ones that matter and the balances are often good.
My SWAG is that many tech people who do not agree with DOGE's aims nonetheless agree with their methods.
There actually has not been enough reflection in the tech community about DOGE

Noah is a great writer on culture, art, and politics.
hate to beg, but really hoping for one more so I can reach the somewhat arbitrary but psychologically important threshhold where I feel that the sale is a success.

help me deal with my issues, is what I'm saying.
just 2 hours left on this sale...

The Giants are the only team this season to lose a game despite having 500+ yards of offense. They've done it twice and are 0-2.

The rest of the NFL is 7-0.

on top of all the other things that are incredible about modern-day kickers, the Cowboys were more or less fine with setting Brandon Aubrey up for a 42-yarder with no attempt to get closer. for most of NFL history that would be considered a reasonably tough kick rather than a gimme

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪
