All the smartest, best people I know are broke and losing their jobs, while the stupidest, meanest, most vicious and violent people are thriving. It’s awful, and of course it’s just one part of the terrible times we’re in. If you feel as hopeless as I do, go read a story, poem, or essay today.

My heart breaks at the end of the Books section at the Post. So many brilliant people there, especially @roncharles.bsky.social, the most beloved book critic I know. I feel like I should write more about this, but I’m on deadline and trying to finish a freelance piece myself.

Bezos isn't destroying the Washington Post because it isn't profitable. He's destroying the Washington Post because he's calculated that a robust free press threatens the ability of his class to warp society around their interests

You could have retained a lot of journalists, and invested in profitable new ventures, with the revenue from the 250,000+ subscribers who cancelled the Post after Bezos spiked the Kamala endorsement just 11 days before the election

So fucking infuriating watching Bezos and his cronies kill the Post. Taking away sports, books, and international reporting so you can write opinions praising Trump is so damn bleak.

GOP's SAVE Act is about rigging 2026 election. It would require people to show citizenship papers on demand, it includes in essence a new poll tax like during Jim Crow and makes it harder for woman to vote. The SAVE Act is about ushering in the GOP's dream that only WHITE MEN can vote!

January 6 was the worst day of my life. But the threat of Donald Trump didn’t end when the mob left the Capitol.

That’s why I’m running for Congress: to defend this country, with the full constitutional authority of Congress.

I’m Harry Dunn. And I’m ready to finish the job.

The history of the press on this is the Trump campaign released a plan saying they would do what they are now doing and people did the math and said that means massive detention centers everywhere yet every headline about it was "With Project 2025 some Dems think they having a winning issue"
It’s hard to put into perspective how truly massive the warehouse is that was recently sold by the Rockefeller Group to the Department of Homeland Security for $70 million to build a concentration camp in Surprise, AZ. Across the street is a huge neighborhood and a school. It’s 400,000-square-feet.

MN is 80% understaffed vs normal number of AUSAs?!?
BREAKING: 8 more U.S. Attorneys in MN resign from Trump’s DOJ in protest as backlash grows.
This isn’t normal; isn’t routine reshuffling. It’s a rebellion.
Last month, 6 veteran prosecutors quit in protest. Normal staffing for the MN DOJ’s office is around 50 attorneys. They’re down to just 9.

Dems might also want to introduce a bill that separates out funding for the rest of the year for FEMA, the Coast Guard, and the other less problematic parts of DHS, and say they'll vote for that -- but no $ for ICE or Border Patrol.

There were about 95K polling places in 2024 & all mail-in voting in 8 states. 154M Americans voted. Last I heard there were 12K ICE agents. If they’re forced to unmask, they say that number will drop by 80%. They’re currently having trouble paying new recruits. The math doesn’t math & he knows it.
