I agree with this take. I have a wife with pain management issues and long COVID. In addition to movie theaters on the whole being trash, it’s VERY hard for us to get excited about going to one because we know she’s going to be uncomfortable at best for two hours.
I mean, screw monopolies. But as someone who avoids movie theaters for disability reasons I actually agree that exclusivity periods for films are bad for consumer choice

Watching in theaters being a different experience is not an argument for exclusivity. It's the opposite.

If the theater experience is valuable in itself, then surely people will buy that experience even if they have other options for seeing the film?

If access to that experience is only viable if consumers can't watch the film another way, that is, by definition, anti-competitive.

I can attest it is rather difficult when you are paid a small amount of money for a short time to create something that makes someone else a half billion dollars

FYREFEST founder Billy McFarland finally managed to organize a party.

He announced in Nov plans to rent a private island to host a festival called “PHNX” (pronounced phoenix, do you get it?), with French Montana headlining.

FYRE Festival ticket holders (from 2017) were offered free entry.

The only reason why numbers are important is because of *ADVERTISEMENT* . the more numbers in your plot of land on the web, the more the value of the ads you put on that plot go up.

.........wait so, how does that whole ad thing work, surely not through a monopoly -oh

in a world where success is seen through numbers, those metrics can be skewed easily.

How do you measure views, someone clicking on it and watching it all the way through? just clicking? Who sets those metrics, when does it change? When the shareholders get nervous? yknow?

smoke and mirrors

TOM COTTON: They were sitting or standing on top of a capsized boat. They weren't floating helplessly in the water
