Probably the most endearing thing about FDR is that he fucking hated Nazis from the get go. If he had had his way Americans would have been disembarking to help win the war over Czechoslovakia.

Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

I feel this in my bones but also I think next year’s SB artist will tell us a lot about how much pressure the WH can still bring to bear
Genuinely gives me a lot of hope that the NFL is a cynical, cash-motivated organization and they're betting on this being the future

The U.S. Navy's top uniformed officer wants to convince commanders to use smaller, newer assets for missions instead of consistently turning to massive aircraft carriers, arguing more tailored groups of ships and equipment would offer more flexibility to respond to crises as they develop.

The health of the Democratic Party would be indisputably better today if organizations like Americans for Democratic Action weren't a shell of their former self and had vibrant membership. But they are shells and don't have that kind of membership.
US politics would pretty much uniformly be better if there was a center left equivalent to DSA, because on the whole US politics would be better if there were more political organizations with meaningful membership standards and participation models.

I hate how meely mouthed "I think that location x's sovereignty should be decided by the people" sounds because it's the correct response to many many things.
I have serious doubts that his position is the majority one in PR, but it's certainly a sizeable minority one, and the issue should be left to the people of PR and their will respected by Congress-

Stop laughing I genuinely believe that.

When I worked for Reason magazine during Trump's rise to power in 2016, I was explicitly forbidden by the editor in chief from writing about Trump's racism, or the violence and racism at his rallies.

It was a "sideshow," I was told.

King Cotton gets a lot of focus in the US, understandably so. It's what most of the South was growing after all.

But Sugar Plantations devoured human lives as a scale that boggles the mind, even if said mind is well acquainted with the horrors of a Cotton Plantation.
Mortality rates were so high on sugar plantations during slavery that slaveholders used to coerce enslaved people working other crops like cotton with threats to sell them or their loved ones to sugar plantations.

That’s where the term “sold down the river” came from.
