I'm excited for CD Eskilson's translation of Edith Södergran's Modern Woman. Södergran, a Finland-Swedish poet who died in 1923 at 31, is is one of our most impt poets & CD's translation renders her w a glittering specificity that also brings out her queerness: worldpoetrybooks.com/books/modern...

💛 L2 translators continue to remind the world that the concept of a mother tongue is, in fact, not so straightforward in large parts of the world, and that many of us translate into a language that is not our first!
As someone who immigrated to Ohio as a disoriented teen with zero English, appearing in @kenyonreview.bsky.social years later, with one of my most personal translations means a little extra. Maybe I did learn to string English words together into meanings, after all. kenyonreview.org/piece/she-be...

Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.
