Two job ads for people in philosophy in my dept (www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DOD999/a... and www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DOD995/a...). Ever heard of this thing called AI? You probably haven't it's pretty niche. But if you have maybe apply? Also this even more niche thing (sustainability) so that too.

Candidates must have expertise and research interests in an area of philosophy and a demonstrable ability to conduct research that has a substantial connection to Artificial Intelligence (AI). We interpret a substantial connection to AI broadly to include, for example, the intersection of AI and philosophy of science, AI and logic/formal methods, AI and moral and political philosophy, and/or AI and philosophy of law. Candidates must be willing and able to make a substantial research-led contribution to the Department’s core teaching provision. (More information about our courses can be found here.)

Nach der gestrigen Keynote von Nicolas de Warren @upenn.edu geht die Tagung im @wiko-greifswald.bsky.social jetzt los. Giovanna Caruso @unigreifswald.bsky.social macht klar, dass die Neuen Materialismen zwar die richtigen Probleme benennen, aber zu deren Lösung die #Phänomenologie unabdingbar ist.

"#IchbinHanna" lobt den Wissenschaftsrat und übt zugleich Kritik. Das Papier lese sich "wie ein Best-of der Kernforderungen unserer Initiative", kommentierten Amrei Bahr, Kristin Eichhorn und Sebastian Kubon auf Anfrage. "Der WR greift unsere Forderungen auf und unterstreicht die Notwendigkeit ihrer Umsetzung." Er spreche sich explizit für mehr unbefristete Beschäftigungsverhältnisse und die Transformation hin zu Departmentmodellen aus, für die Promotion sehe er Mindestvertragslaufzeiten vor, die die durchschnittliche Promotionsdauer im jeweiligen Fach abdeckten, "was unbedingt zu begrüßen ist". Auch die deutlich rigidere Begrenzung der maximalen Befristung nach der Promotion sei erfreulich, "wobei es bei zwei Jahren bleiben sollte, statt die Möglichkeit von bis zu drei Jahren auszureizen."

Wer Wissenschaft als Beruf anschließend weiter ausüben möchte, solle nach dem Vorschlag des WR nach bis zu drei Jahren Postdoc-Befristung zwar im Normalfall eine unbefristete Stelle erhalten, könne jedoch auch weiter befristet werden: etwa auf einer Entwicklungsstelle mit Anschlusszusage, also einer Juniorprofessur mit Tenure Track oder Ähnlichem. "Dann ergeben sich zwei bis drei Jahre Befristung in S2 plus in der Regel sechs Jahre in S3 — und Weiterentwicklung wird weiterhin mit Befristung gekoppelt, statt sie auf unbefristeten Stellen zu ermöglichen." Die Kritik von "#IchbinHanna": "Nach der Promotion, die durchschnittlich im Alter von etwa 32 erfolgt, neun Jahre bis zur Übernahme auf eine unbefristete wissenschaftliche Stelle zu warten, was auf ein Durchschnittsalter von 41 Jahren hinausläuft, ist deutlich zu lang und verfehlt das Ziel attraktiver Karrierewege in der deutschen Wissenschaft."
