my dad is (old) Gen X and hates the Beatles because his dad (Silent gen) liked them
he also hates hair metal (and in fact believes there was “basically no good music in the 80’s) but does in fact like Nirvana and hate the Beatles

As someone who is this guy's age I can tell you 100% that if you were into Pixies, Nirvana, 120 Minutes stuff, etc. but didn't like the Beatles you had to have worked hard to contort yourself into that special little box. I just saw the Freakier Friday trailer against my will and I have to admit it didn’t occur to me that Lindsay Lohan would be playing a grown woman in this one

one very unpleasant ADHD thing for me is the jolt of unnecessary terror I get when I’m on a bus and momentarily don’t recognize where I am
before I had a smart phone I would walk for hours if I could to avoid taking a bus, and I still always forget for just a second that I have a GPS in my hand

I feel like at some point we need to talk about the fact that college achievement is pretty well correlated with not having to work a part time job in college
especially if countries like Canada are going to keep giving students loans by estimating their need and deliberately loaning less than that

This became especially farcical as SAT prep courses became more and more common as we started treating the SAT more and more like the gaokao. And it turns out yeah, there's a significant metaskill in knowing how to take multi hour exams that does not correlate super well with college achievement.
