Still trying to write a holy litany despite America's silly mood. Only knows how to do one thing well; would rather be whistling in the dark.

Now accepting all major pronouns (and 'thon'). May contain cats and echolalia. https://linktr.ee/kiyanicoll
Pinned
Gonna do a short pinned thread because I was talking about my Philosophy Of Social Media and it seems the sort of thing a body might want to put in a pinned thread.

I am a human being who is doing human being things here. Social media is my workplace water cooler, and I am just some guy.

May we be wise in our planning, but may we refrain from borrowing impossible hindsight from futures we cannot be certain of. How it turns out isn't available to us from here; may we act anyway, with principle, compassion, courage, and resolve. May we be sufficient for the tasks before us.

I choose to start. I choose to have faith that something can grow from starting, however that endures, grows, succeeds. I choose to do the work of hope and keep doing it without waiting to see how it turns out. "How it turns out" is a luxury for afterward, and there's fires that need lighting now.

This unsubtle season is full of heavy-handed metaphors and narrative overreach and sentiment that steers wildly between the campy and the guileless. So let's get wild with it. Gather up all the schmaltz and cook with it and feed each other. Gather 'round the fire. Fortify each other. Get big.

In honour of Rob Reiner, have David Moore's thread on the best sword fight in movie history and exactly how nerdy it is.
As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

It gets dark so early, this far north. And it's been a hell of a year. But here we are. Thank you for holding on, friends.

May we last as long as we need to. May we be enough. May we pull together, and not be pulled apart.

Somehow, may we bind up what is broken so it can heal.

Chag sameach.

The second half of this stunningly complex visual novel is up on Kickstarter. The first half features a variety of violences, supernatural powers, dark secrets, political intrigue, and multiple romance routes (that can be done simultaneously without people getting mad at you). The art is gorgeous.
Women of Xal II's Kickstarter is FINALLY up and running! Please share with your #VisualNovel friends who like their dark political mysteries, character studies, and cast of queer ladies.

First game is free during the campaign, of course.

These kids have absolutely got a deathgrip on my brain at the moment so I decided to draw them.

For the record: both of them have absolute "how dare you fuck with my boyfriend" vibe going on in their lives, but somehow they get differential results on that.

I can't tell if this is a migraine or an actual illness or whatever but it means that I didn't get to go to the Museum of Science and look at trains like an autistic stereotype and I am cranky about it.

On the other hand, I'm able to flop in a dark quiet space like an autistic stereotype so okay.

when Benoit Blanc appeared this post resurfaced in my mind and I was like “she’s so right”
I have long posited that Daniel Craig's accent in Glass Onion is better than Knives Out because in Knives Out he is trying to do a real Southern accent and is bad at it but in Glass Onion he is just talking like Foghorn Leghorn, which is something a real gay Southern weirdo would do.

Some days I wake up with some random music stuck in my head (ironically I am wearing my "75% of my brain capacity is wasted on song lyrics" t-shirt today).

Today the music I wake up with is Haydn's Symphony 94 in G (the Surprise Symphony) and that is ... substantially more random than average.

The trick of Star Trek is that Kirk is not horny. *Gene Roddenberry* is horny. The tension between Kirk the character trying to do his job & the camera & production trying to get him laid, that's the key.
not sure why the makers of star trek think there is a deficit of sex on that show. when they said "go where no man has gone before" they were talking about james t. kirk being a ho

It is very satisfying to add one sentence to a manuscript that:
- establishes when the story is set twice over
- provides a clue about a secret
- explains how a character can know a thing (not that anyone will care but I wanted it established)
and
- is drop-dead funny when one knows what's going on.

First draft is technically just over novella length which means when I edit it it will be a long novella because I overwrite and sometimes my sentences are garbage.

I wrote an entire thing for the first time in a very long time.

(Maybe it's natural, maybe it's ADHD meds! [swooshes hair])
Currently staring at the climax of the novella I'm writing, which is The Next Bit and also I am too busy to be sure I get to write it any time soon, and thinking back to the panel I went to on horror and humor and how they discussed that horror, humor, and sex are the most visceral writing.
