Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Any headline that ends in a question mark used to be answerable with "No."
Any question headline that starts with "Why?" can these days be answered with "NOBODY'S GOT ANY FUCKING MONEY!!"

("Why aren't millennials buying houses? Why are pubs closing? Why aren't people having kids?" etc)

There's a series I'm reading at the moment that has an isekai'ed trans woman as the protag and while I'm all for folks using fiction to explore complex experiences in their identities, let me tell you how strangely nice it is that if I wasn't told that in the first few chapters, I'd never know.

Mashed potatoes were actually the worst thing I’ve ever seen clog a disposal. The texture gives the blades trouble and prevents airflow through the pipes.

The degree to which recipes—ESPECIALLY pre-Internet recipes—expect you to already understand the Deep Lore of cooking is amazing.

They were so often Cliff’s Notes to serve as a reminder for people who already knew what to do, instead of proper instructions to *tell you* what to do.

I had a boss. She did not cook. She decided to cook the Thanksgiving turkey. She read the instructions on the plastic wrapper on the frozen turkey. The instructions did not include "remove this plastic wrapper" and so...she did not.

Seven years ago my wife and I brought some frozen tamales to Christmas Eve dinner. It ended with me going no-contact with my family.

I’ll tell the story in a moment.

Right? Like, solve for capitalism first, and then things will be free, instead of screwing over the folks who are also just trying to get by.
People who pirate books: “I just think art and literature should be FREE to everyone!”

Yes, I too would love to live in a world where art is accessible freely to all and yet artists are paid a living wage, but as this magical wagical pixie wixie land does not exist, please don’t steal from us.

I am by all metrics other than having Stephen King money, a publishing success story. I spoke at NYCC. I've flown all over the country for appearances. My mom wins bragging rights contests.

And I couldn't keep doing it.

That is the state of publishing.
