Writer?
Like monkeys in a lab fighting over post-it notes with little pictures on them.

I don’t want to seem like an ass, but this bit of history we find ourselves in *will* be studied in the future.

Whole new theories of psychology will be founded.

Maybe that’s a good thing, long term.
It's a whole genre it's beautiful

If a cheap clicky button on a portable retro gaming system clacks loudly in the forest, and no one is around to hear, does it still wake your wife up from her slumber?

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, “I’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”

If it's, "Let us scrape your site for our plagiarism slop-hose or you don't get a search ranking", what you're dealing with isn't a company or a search engine but a *protection racket*.

There are so many reasons to say no to generative-AI that have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of its output, even you’ve somehow convinced yourself that its quality isn’t unacceptably low.

Who needs the fake psychedelic garbage of AI when you have Tom Cox posting absolute fever dream book covers which, honestly, *have* to be hallucinations.
So many books, so little time.

This year I've been reflecting upon and writing about my life as a neurodiverse author. Here's one of the most personal essays I've ever written about being on the spectrum. In addition, an updated version of my free booklet "Tips and Strategies for Neurodiverse Writers" is available.

The real question is:

When is it Dr. Who, and when is it Dr. Whom and Dr. Whomst.

So that's the lesson that pops up for me with AI stuff--when evaluating now, I look at whatever the focus is NOT on.

This isn't to say AI won't eventually be good enough to smooth out everything, but right now it can't. The tells are outside what the video/image wants you to focus on.

Thread on how to detect ai in that viral dog video
Yeah, I mean, I'm critical of any video nowadays that is trying to elicit an emotional response, especially when it's asking for subs at the end. It's weird that all the people seem to end up with the dog they want. And shelters are overflowing, where are the rooms full of people wanting to adopt?

Want to avoid AI writing? Turns out Wikipedia has the answer
The best guide to spotting AI writing comes from Wikipedia | TechCrunch
Wikipedia's guide to “Signs of AI writing” is a great resource for learning to spot LLM-generated prose.

OH is that quoted bit the cause of the day's issues? Gosh, here's the real secret.

Many writers don't need to pretend that they make their money from the book; they do make their money from the books.

They're just poor. They make as much money as their neighbors who are CNAs or Walmart greeters. 🧵

I still have a bunch of Atari hardware. It’s always fun to see images like this, with the devices running free-range and crisp and clean and awesome.

Looks like a cool event!
I want to thank everyone that attended Atari Party today. Such a fun day and lots of amazing friends. #Atari

Bazzite people: how have you found running games from GoG, etc. in the OS?

Looking at the… plans?… Microsoft has for their OS, plus the absolute crap updates these last few years, I’m thinking of ditching Windows for good.

Today, instead of writing, I'm working on the paperback cover and polishing the interior layout.

The ebook is currently available for pre-order and will be released on December 25th.

The paperback will (probably) be released a few days before that.

Apps either work for you, or they don’t.

They are tools.

Discard the broken ones.

It’s time we all stopped settling for garbage.

I rid myself of three apps these last four days.

Spark email: for adding a floating AI button directly in the way, which could not be disabled.

Chrome: AI button popped up on the title bar.

Reuters: For repeatedly telling me I wasn’t subscribed. I was then. I am not now.
