I had a 45 year old rideshare driver tell me recently that he uses AI for therapy.
I asked him which one. He said “Grok— I like the voice it uses, the tone doesn’t talk down to me like ChatGPT’s does.”
He bragged that he had a 4 hour “therapy session” talking to Grok.
Chat, are we cooked?

As a teen or young adult in the 1990s you had constant encounters with people in their 50s-80s who were combatants, victims or perpetrators during catastrophes of the mid-20th century
That direct link to realities of Nazism and other forms of oppression such as Stalinism or colonialism is now gone

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

The ongoing media frenzy around Charlie Kirk's shooting has me thinking about how if you publicly identify as left-leaning you're expected to care about what happens to everyone all the time with no exceptions, but if you're publicly right-leaning you can pick & choose who gets your empathy.

In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.
If this is what it took for you to be pushed into fascism you were probably already there

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

Anything that makes you ask “why does America do this?” it’s bc of racism. Tipping, anti-vagrancy/loitering/foraging laws, credit scores, tying health insurance to a job, bar exam… if it might make a Black person happy, healthy, or successful, give it an obstacle course

not a conspiracy-minded person by nature, but this is one situation where (and it's not a great leap) it's impossible to draw any conclusion other than "the history of the labor movement in this region has been purposefully suppressed for generations"
First time I heard about this was a Behind the Bastards two parter and honestly I’m shocked it’s not a more ingrained part of our labor history. I felt like something this violent and notable would’ve been something I learned about in my history classes.

Meet Shakira. Ten years ago, she was living in a shelter with her three kids, working at a non-union hotel.
Now she's a member of HTC.
Unions are how working people can build a dignified life. But in a city as expensive as ours, they need local government on their side.
