love seeing attempts at mixing arcade game structures + pacing with modern moment-to-moment mechanics. I feel like I still don't see enough of this compared to the other way around (which DOES come across as "people won't try it otherwise")
BTW I don’t think this means you can’t make a game in an “old” genre taking inspiration or mechanics from new games. But you have to do it because you have a coherent vision for your game and why this makes it interesting as a game, rather than because “people won’t try it if I don’t“
People who have heard about these kinds of games want to see them for what they are; trying to sand off pieces to appeal to "modern audiences" can actually alienate new players who wanted to try the games as-is, while not actually bringing in people who are otherwise turned off by them.

Alright! Let's actually talk about this waterfall thing. It is an amazing showcase of many things that I adore from late 90s/early 2000s graphics.
I am replicating this in Blender through mere observation, so some things might not be fully accurate to the mind-boggling effects of the PS1.

Here's the in game finale to R-Type Delta which is running so fast the buildings no longer sink, all particles are missing & the music hard cuts as it's all been scrolled off-screen. The whole game's like this, so the music sync'ing to the action in st.3, lol no etc
Also missing enemies, bugs etc

my stance on VR is the same as it was like 10 years ago: it's never going to be Actually Convenient to wear something on your face and it's always going to be deeply silly, but it enables entirely unique kinds of games so i think it's worth paying attention to for gaming dweebs like myself

got the Pilot Kids 1-All today, reaching 2-2. Liked this a lot more than I thought I would! That Psikyo late boss style starts to shine through even though the game's a sizable departure overall. The characters are pretty radically distinct, too

got the Pilot Kids 1-All today, reaching 2-2. Liked this a lot more than I thought I would! That Psikyo late boss style starts to shine through even though the game's a sizable departure overall. The characters are pretty radically distinct, too

got the Rabio Lupus NORMAL mode 1CC!
Calice Cup had me playing Expert mode, but after seeing the devious tricks of the Expert final boss I decided to go grab the Normal clear real quick lol
Neat game, but I don't think I'm as into it as Sonic Wings or any Psikyo stuff I've played
