I'm a damn delight and a force of nature. I advocate dirty books. To hell with the censors! She/her & cis. (Views are my own and don't reflect my employers.)

Intresting how the people accusing GDT’s Frankenstein of not being feminist because it doesn’t pass the Bechdel test assume the Creature is a man.

The Creature is assigned male at birth, no gender is claimed.

Is the film not feminist, or are your ideas of feminism rooted in gender essentialism?

Just watched Titanic. Well, the first half. I believe it was @bandherbooks.bsky.social who recommended turning it off after they have sex in the car, and then it's just a lovely little romance.

I keep thinking maybe I should try to reread The Grapes of Wrath, which I DETESTED in high school. (But I loved East of Eden in college.)
Hah yes this.

Some of the books I loved as a teen have really not held up, while others did and are clearly excellent.

But there were books I was also just not ready to read, and my opinions on them were a waste of space.

If I was really rich, I would not complain about mayors refusing to meet with me; I would just buy a lot of Lego sets and spend extended periods in Tokyo, Italy, and France

Really don’t think it can be emphasized enough what an INSANELY promising technology mRNA vaccination has proved itself to be and it’s beyond infuriating that it is under active and sustained attack by the most powerful people on earth
GOOD NEWS! Researchers have developed a new mRNA vaccine that has been shown to suppress abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, offering hope to MILLIONS of patients with age-related vision loss. The vaccine triggered strong antibody responses that REDUCED retinal damage by UP TO 85%.

Fantasia is on TV this morning. I REALLY wish they could have continued to make Fantasia movies because they are such a great way to be exposed to classical/orchestral music. Fantasia 2000 was good too - though not as scary as the original. (A little scary is good!)

Oh shit, I'm gonna have to listen to that.
Since we’re talking BUNNICULA I need everyone to know that the audiobook is read by Victor Garber and he truly out-gays himself. Harold and Chester absolutely come across as the fussy middle-aged couple they were obviously meant to be.
If you see this, post a vampire that isn’t Dracula.

They may be rich in money but they are bankrupt in morals.
The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

Or fight like fucking hell to ensure that OUR DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS ARE NOT BEING DISMANTLED, WHICH IS WHAT THE WHOLE THING IS ABOUT. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE SINGLE BOOKS.

Sure, stock them. But you're not doing jack shit to fix the problem if that's all you're doing and promoting.

In other words, the same thing every right to read advocate has been shouting about for the last 4+ years.

Nothing has changed. The book banners have just worked harder and longer, and they go directly to those who can pass laws, while we sit back and ask what can we do over and over again.
I wonder what the best way would be to make these books available to every Utah school kid—and to let them know that they can access them.
The state of Utah quietly banned their 19th book from all public schools last week: bookriot.com/utah-bans-th...
