The bigram "woke pope" just inspires so many feelings in me all at once, like a grenade going off in the soup aisle. I think the nut of it is how clear it is that "woke" is just a word like "liberal" or "capitalist" or "the antichrist" that doesn't mean anything anymore except "fuckin'"

It is fun to see recipes for "from scratch" green bean casserole, a recipe deliberately developed to be deployable from shelf stable prepared food

Redwall campaign running into a snag as we're discussing if Abigail (a sparrow) can carry a party member over a wall, and on one hand Abigail's carrying capacity per RAW is 15 times her strength in pounds and on the other hand Abigail is a sparrow

“…the “Orthodoxy as Masculinity” narrative is consistently rejected by Church leaders and scholars because it is so blatantly misaligned with the Church’s theology and history.”

Great piece on the recent NYT article at @publicorthodoxy.bsky.social
The "Orthodoxy as Masculinity" Narrative
According to the New York Times, young, conservative men are flocking to the Orthodox Church because it provides an all-too-rare space that celebrates masculinity. This “Orthodoxy as Masculinity” narr...

Sometimes you do find historically accurate info about Japan online. This ancient art of Dutch-catching is called dejima-jutsu and it has applications in business, health, personal relationships, and politics.

It remains insane to me that DOGE was treated at the time as an impressive shock and awe accomplishment - “you can’t deny he’s getting stuff done!” - and then instantly memory holed by the press once if became clear it was a total failure by every possible standard including Musk’s own
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

TIL that the European Rabbit (the only domesticated rabbit, and an invasive species of significant impact) is an endangered species. It's tough to be a rabbit in specifically the Iberian peninsula and southern France, and correspondingly difficult to be an Iberian lynx or Spanish imperial eagle.

Just watched a YouTube video about A-frame houses and their various shortcomings, and the guy was like "so why did we like them so much" and, idk man, as you said, they're simple and stable and for 100% of human history (rounding) that really outranks "can you hang something flat on the wall"

There is a type of alcohol called a "Scotch ale" and friends, it's no good. It's the opposite of the business, it's the idleness. You'll make a face like an otter eating a watermelon. You'll reach for the beer list and try to determine what the hell you misread in the Märzen's tasting notes.
