The thing that's never sat with me re:criticism about Expedition 33 being "baby's first JRPG" is that the people who actually made the game couldn't be more consistently reverent about their influences.
Accepting the 'Game of the Year' award for Clair Obscur Expedition 33, director Guillaume Broche thanks Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi who "made me fall in love with games and inspired me to become a game dev."

I would say that E33 is nearly universally appealing to anyone that enjoys videogames as a medium to almost any degree.

On a political level I think that trailer is one of the most important pieces of art made in recent years both because of it saying “fuck you” to these weird puritanical rules being imposed but also because it just fully lays bare the double standards and how fucking fake all this shit is.
