The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

Something else that was striking was Grok's habit of giving us a bunch of possibly identifying information we didn't ask for, like extensive details about someone's work and family -- sometimes even providing lists of likely family members and *their* addresses.

Join us and help spread the word! This is coming up in a few days and we are still very low on signups. Though many of may be familiar with the term "pinkwashing," Khalil's work shows us how queer people in Palestine are targeted by the occupation in many more, sinister ways. Come learn with us!
Dec. 6: scholar and organizer Khalil will teach "On Blackmail and Other Settler Colonial Technologies in Occupied Palestine," on technologies of control, discipline, and surveillance within occupied Palestine and their implications for other colonial contexts. www.workshops4gaza.com/calendar/on-...

The idea of ProPublica of all outlets using GAI makes me want to vomit
It's simple — @propublica.org workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response to our proposal.

Illinois / Cook County needs to do this too.

Officials can’t have it both ways. They encourage protest against ICE, but deploy their own police who initiate violence against those protesters, then uphold bogus charges that their police largely manufactured.
Super important! Yesterday, protesters were widely praised by elected officials and the public. People put their bodies on the line. Many were thrown violently onto the ground. Many took direct hits of pepper-spray. A few were arrested.

Charges against protesters are always arbitrary. Drop'em!
Press conference now:

CM Sandy Nurse calls on NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch to drop the charges on demonstrators detained yesterday.

the real problem for the Democrats is that they’re committed only to help people in ways that leave nobody worse off (ie ways that impede nobody’s profits). so that basically leaves them with infrastructure and targeted tax breaks as the only policy levers.
No value, no villain, no vision. Sounds like the tagline for the earnings call of a collapsing appliance retailer

Really under appreciated point imho
I have had the experience in my personal life of someone going through mental illness and other struggles not remembering conversations we had, and it was frustrating for me because I felt like they weren't listening, but that was not the case -- memory just doesn't work as well under strain. 7/

The DOJ tells Judge James Boasberg that Kristi Noem made the decision that flights that had departed should continue on to El Salvador, in contravention of the court’s orders.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

The first legislators arrested for inspecting these spaces were Black legislators from New Jersey
Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.
