Now for the money...

Overall, the budget is essentially flat.

The biggest winner is NINDS with a 5.9% increase. The biggest losers are NIEHS and NIDDK.

My specific experience is with NIH, but I’ll stand up and say it:

The people who work at NIH are together one of the great wonders of the world. US biomedical science, cancer cures, dementia research all are built on their talent and dedication.
For some reason, very few people these days will stand up and say it, but: the US federal bureaucracy is one of the great wonders of the world, staffed with incredibly diligent people who do their jobs well and care deeply.

Trump's destruction of the federal apparaus was a historic crime.
The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.

The NIH's new multi-year funding plan will harm many institutions, scientists, and health outcomes.

Help us stop it! Call your representatives in the U.S. Congress!

At least prior to 2025, you could expect all years on your grant (barring major issues).

The main problem with MYF is the rapid transition absent an NIH budget increase. We can pay 4 grants for 1 year, or only 1 grant for 4 years. Under MYF, we can pay far fewer grants (1 instead of 4).

Deadline to publish summary statements for NIH grants has been extended from 30 days to 2/26 due to the shut down (=60 d).

If you are waiting for reviews to resubmit again in Cycle 1 you might be out off luck, review might come few days before or even after the deadline.
