This is a devastating loss. Climate.gov is home to the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, a major resource for local governments and businesses working to understand and prepare for climate risks. Another huge blow to U.S. adaptation capacity (along w/ 6th National Climate Assessment, IRA cuts, etc).

🧪 Though a doubling of NSF's budget might seem far-fetched, that's exactly what Congress said what's needed to maintain national competitiveness in science & tech.

The NOAA layoffs aren't just crude, they're a direct attack on US capacity to do climate science by firing highly productive young researchers. @zachlabe.com has an insanely strong publication history, part of the Fresh eyes CMIP team, WMO task teams etc. /1 www.gfdl.noaa.gov/zachary-labe/

Please help us at @asn-amnat.bsky.social show the impacts of recent federal funding cuts and lay offs by sharing your stories.
Briefly putting on my hat as @asn-amnat.bsky.social President: The ASN Council has just distributed an updated message to the American Society of Naturalists members with information about actions that can be undertaken to advocate for science, and scientists, within the US:
‼️The US-based @ipcc.bsky.social technical support unit (TSU) for Working Group 3 Co-Chairs has been terminated, and the US won’t be attending next week’s IPCC meeting where the AR7 chapter outlines will be approved.

As past VP of @asn-amnat.bsky.social, I am happy to hear ideas about how the ASN might better support members and our scientific mission in this time of change when our science is crucial to addressing pressing global challenges.
I usually reserve this account for my personal views; but today I want to represent my position as President of @asn-amnat.bsky.social to post a message that will shortly go out to the membership of the American Society of Naturalists from the ASN Executive Council

Excited to share our body size findings, based on an amazing historical resource of many thousands of grasshopper specimens and surveys, uncovering ways to anticipate climate change winners and losers. Thanks to lead author Cesar Nufio and many others for so much measuring.
Declining body size is a widely anticipated response to #anthropogenic #ClimateChange, but how general is it? @lbuckley.bsky.social &co use a >50-year study of montane #grasshoppers to show that size shifts depend on both elevation & species’ seasonal timing 🧪 @plosbiology.org plos.io/3CEBrF6
