A newschool-style tattoo of a dead pigeon with gore created with neon pinks and green colors. Bright neon green and yellow fungi grow from the corpse as the design flows down the outside of a right forearm.

“Barbie-Yaga” This newschool tattoo is a take on the idea of Barbie’s Dream House mashed up with the Baba Yaga folk tale. The house is pink and purple and the legs are that of a Barbie doll, rather than a chicken. The legs are playfully attempting a “chorus line kick” amid glittery sparkles.

A newschool pheonix tattoo that stretches from armpit to knee of a plus-size model, fitting to and compliments her natural curves. The client’s melanated skin tone still holds all colors used in the design: black, orange, pink, blue, and a lot of purple. This image is fully healed—some areas are healed a month and others are healed for almost six months. The tattoo took 4 sessions to complete.

A chocobo is a large flightless bird creature from the game series, Final Fantasy. I personally remember them best from Final Fantasy Seven, especially having played through numerous rounds of the mini-racing game. This tattoo features a classic yellow chocobo with another smaller creature, called a “Moogle”, riding on its back. Moogles are little and while they can fly, they move slow. The poor little guy is holding into the reigns while the chocobo speeds forth, eager to win the race.

Behold a newschool raccoon tattoo, with playful proportions and filled with cottage-core colors and textures. Orange capped mushrooms, blueberry clusters and oak leaves break up the design and introduce more flow. This tattoo was completed in my third year of tattooing, and it is now my seventh year. I am still proud of it and impressed by how well the gray colors in the raccoon’s coat healed. The subject is my client’s pet raccoon and she spent much of the session chatting about this mischievous little punk and his addiction to sugar.

This narrow, vertical painting is small and depicts a glass canning jar floating open with the lid drifting away. Inside the jar fireflies surge to escape and swarm in the air, among a thicket of honeysuckle flowers. The serene teals remind me of summer in the south, chasing fire flies in the Ouachita Valley. I still remember what honeysuckles taste like, and I think about it when I’m sad.

This tattoo design features a split complimentary color palette that uplifts golden yellow as the star, with teal blue and true blue as it’s complimenting branches. The storm goddess’s royal blue hair echoes the power of rain and the raging ocean. Her iron gray skin promises an outpouring of power, draped in a delicate cream dress with golden jewelry matching her bright gold eyes. A light shines within her golden gaze, breaking through her cloudy face as a reminder that within her is the source of life. After every storm, the sun will rise again.

This newschool-style tattoo features a dark purple xenomorph alien crouched around an ice cream cone stuffed with pink alien eggs. Bright green ooze dribbles from the waffle cone’s brim and emits a lime colored haze that drifts through the background. Near the bottom of the cone a crack opens up to reveal more eggs. The alien creature wraps her tail protectively around the precious, sweet bundle and shows her teeth. Mashing together whimsy and horror, this tattoo plays with our expectations of the term “treats”.
