We're used to thinking that the only tools of a regime are state institutions, but this isn't the case. Twitter is an indispensable weapon of foreign policy under this administration. It is just as legitimate for democracies to crack down upon it as it would be for them to close US military bases.

'Digital sovereignty' is generally a bad idea used in service of authoritarian agendas, but we absolutely need it in this case. You cannot have a full picture of MAGA foreign policy without considering Twitter. It is a tool for the global export of fascism, far more than the military.

Ironically, I think the most effective way to reform the Supreme Court (looking beyond the necessary packing) might not even be a court reform at all. Instead, we can restore the power of the legislature, which reduces the incentive to seek political victories via partisan control over the court.

What people need to understand is that liberalism isn't a European or Western ideology; Europe was just the first conquest. It's more as if a portal to hell opened in Paris and then the dread hordes streamed out from there (laudatory).
It was the same in Europe for a long time. The whole point of liberalism is to shatter such archaic and vicious practices and to push a society into a much freer model.

I always liked the quote "There is light in the world, and it is us", perhaps because I was 16 when I read it and so it was formative to me. I think it sums up my optimism about humanity's potential.

There's certain kinds of people who believe democracy means that one's moral values should conform to popular opinion. This kind of attitude is anathema to democratic virtue. It's an abdication of responsibility to discern right from wrong. We need people with the courage to stand before the mob.
We're slipping into full-blown gutter racist pogrom politics and the reactions from most of the media/punditocracy/commentariat/elite/influencers/etc has tended from gleeful participation to "well, if that's what the people what it can't be that bad".

Thinking about how the logic of creedal nationalism leads towards a citizen-alien concept in which certain individuals with views opposed to the foundational ideology are citizens by law but not in spirit.
Not attacking liberal creedalism here; I fully support it and embrace the logical conclusion.
