the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Yesterday we got news that our paper on speedrunning has been accepted, and fittingly yesterday I also earned a speedrun world record for the first time. What game? Doesn't matter. Not important. No further questions.

A lot of people think the hardest thing about speedrunning is having to hit frame perfect tricks, losing runs to RNG, or having the persistence to keep trying in the face of defeat. They're wrong.

The real hardest thing about speedrunning is getting 7-9 hours of sleep every night.
