I’m glad to see people protesting Discord forcing IDs for age verification, but what I need everyone to understand is that there’s immense bipartisan pressure to make the entire internet like this, and they are likely going to succeed unless something drastic happens

I said this before but Americans simply can not comprehend how much wealth there is. We constantly under project how much tax revenue we will raise from taxing the wealthy. The original estimate was $50 million.

really worried about conspiratorial thinking being a self-reinforcing positive feedback loop. "A machine that gives people apophenia" is what a lot of the Internet looks like right now, because of entirely *reasonable* low social trust and anger at elite impunity
