Librarians and other educators have essential duties to step up & address the issue any time we believe a child is being harmed. This includes being harmed by AI, and make no mistake, it is harming not only our students, but also our adults, and our society.
Students aren’t just using AI for homework. Many are using chatbots as “friends” & emotional support. I’m featured in SLJ’s Jan 2026 cover story With Friends Like These. My Special Edition breaks down what educators + librarians can do now starting in elementary.

Never did I think that would be something that I would ever have to say. .. I’m sad—in disbelief and just so angry that our staff and our students are going through this.”

There are more public libraries nationwide than there are Starbucks or McDonalds, and while they don’t have the reputation for being everywhere that those stores enjoy, public libraries remain as a valuable resource that can turn an interest into a full-blown passion.

"Reclaiming teacher time with AI". Time for what? In the era of shrinking enrollment, be prepared for other duties as assigned, more students added to rosters, and fewer educational support personnel. Be very careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

Great example of failing forward and growth mindset.
I'm reviewing page proofs for HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE today & thought you might like to see this photo of Robert Goddard's first liquid fuel rocket.

On its test flight, it flew about 40 feet and then crashed into his aunt's cabbage patch. #GottaStartSomewhere

Check your shorteners and qrs in an incognito window.
If you include QR codes, you GOTTA:

1) Make that QR code HUGE. Folks in back can't get a good scan of tiny dots from 50-100' away.

2) Provide a short link we can type in. 'Cause if (when) there are QR code issues, & for those on a laptop, you gotta have backup.
