I’m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about “the benefits of AI” forever.

Made a lot of progress in the last few days - I've learned so much, it's really fun! Here's a mischievous gnome running away from a smog-type enemy for our prototype ✌️

Morning, bitches!

Some upsetting statements on #creation from management

-The larger the creative team the less likely the work will be notable
-Great #art is almost always created independent of corporate requirements
-Art that changes the world is usually what no one knew they wanted at the time

Continued:

-if you create something great for a corporation it’s far more likely you’ll never get the credit or the money for it as opposed to making it on your own
-corporate creative jobs are neither stable or a method of “making it” as an artist
-owning your work is key to success as an artist

Check this one fact out:

"In 2024, the total installed electricity capacity of the planet—every coal, gas, hydro, and nuclear plant and all of the renewables—was about 10 terawatts. The Chinese solar supply chain can now pump out 1 terawatt of panels every year."

star trek is about a utopian vision of the future bordering on fantasy where people someday will be able to make good choices about complicated problems by talking to each other and involving people who know about things
The thing about Star Trek is that the majority of it has the crew spending most of the episode trying to figure out, through arguing and investigating, what's the right thing to do in a complicated situation and I don't think any shows do that now? Like in a Very Special Episode but not all the time

With all the Sandfall and Larian AI-related news, there are bound to be fans that feel that the flak was disproportionate in terms of the degree of AI use

And it would be, if those examples existed in a vacuum

But it's far more important to nip any and all genAI use in the bud

Any and all use, no matter how inconsequential it seems, has a snowball effect. Once upper management gets like "oh, it saved me 2 minutes writing this email" it's a matter of not much time before it trickles down to "you should use it so you can do 2x the work in the same time"

All of this is still without considering the legal, ethical, sociopolitical, health and environment implications of the tech

Despite all that, it's still a tool to serve capitalistic gains, because the only thing it does, with no regard to output quality, is to "save time" so you can do more work.
