Wait, we thought the Canadian Coalition
For “Firearm
Rights” was just a collection of peasant hunters working hard in the bush to feed their families and jolly “sport” target shooters out for a lark.
Turns out the CCFR gets funding from the gun merchants.
Merry Christmas!

Extremely cool and also a reminder that conservatives in America campaigned so hard against HPV vaccination because they thought getting a vaccine to prevent cancer by preventing HPV would make a bunch of teenagers have sex
Congrats to Australia, this is really cool!

Canada's premiers keep attacking the courts. It might be good short-term politics for them, but it's doing long-term damage to institutions our democracy and freedoms depend on. #cdnpoli

Canada’s premiers need to stop attacking the courts
From Alberta and Ontario to Quebec and British Columbia, Canada's premiers have been ratcheting up their anti-judge rhetoric. It won't lead us anywhere good.

I remain unconvinced that public opposition to the carbon tax was grounded in some identifiable impact of the carbon tax.

I think people were mad about higher prices and the carbon tax became a convenient focus of those complaints.

Opinion: Because it’s not 2015: Why Carney’s pro-oil turn isn’t turning off Canadians
Prime Minister’s long-standing support for emission reductions gives voters reason to believe he can be trusted – even as he puts more emphasis on oil production

I’m not a doctor, but feels like *actual* early intervention in frostbite cases would entail giving people warm shelter before amputation becomes necessary.

Like, how much later than “amputation required” can intervention be?
Alberta Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services Jason Nixon says rising frostbite amputations on his watch are a sign of the system working as intended.

Australian here 👋

Stop saying the tragedy in Sydney demonstrates that strict gun laws don’t work.

There were ZERO mass shootings in Australia in the two decades after strict gun laws were passed in 1996.

We have so much we need to do, but strict gun laws remain a critical part of the solution.

The CDC is compromised. They’re no longer a reliable source of information.

They push anti-vaxx & anti-science grift.

Get your vaccines. Wear a respirator. Clean the air

So right @hollyhoye.bsky.social.ca. Thanks Dr Wesley for the concrete ideas for resisting populism and the decline in democracy here in Alberta (and elsewhere). We can’t lie down! @jaredwesley.ca
“Talk. Organize. Show up. Act.”

I have never felt so out of place and time in my home province, and I know I’m not alone. Dr. Wesley is right—we must show our dissent, every day. Our future depends on it.

I’m doing many of these things now. I won’t be stopping. I hope you won’t stop either.
The UCP has made 2025 one of the darkest years for Alberta’s democracy.

Albertans can turn on the lights in 2026.

By simply being Albertan.

Let me explain. 🧵 open.substack.com/pub/drjaredw...
