This is absolutely nuts. I read news stories these days and can't decide if we're headed toward A Handmaid's Tale or Idiocracy. Neither yet but I sure don't know where the tipping point is.
Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

For comparison, every robotic mission NASA has ever sent in its history, from the dawn of the Space Age 65 years ago to today, from Mercury to Pluto and beyond, has cost less than $40B.

I know which one has done more for humankind and which one should be dismantled.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the ‘Metaverse’ has cost Meta more than $77B

The company now plans to cut spending on it and shift focus to AI wearables instead

The problem with questioning birthright citizenship in the US context should not be looked at with its economic peers, but its geographic. There’s a historical reason it exists and it underpins the entire state organization in the Western Hemisphere. There exceptions in the WH also tie into that:

It's been a while since I watched the movie, but yes
The reason I liked the movie Civil War, and thought some missed the point, was that it depicted the miserably chaotic societal breakdown of a civil conflict, in contrast to fantasists’ imagination of what a civil war would look like.

Just about anyone who thinks they’d like a real one is wrong.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

This was very thought-provoking, most especially the "What can be done?" section. As Bonica discusses, I am — as a member of the Democratic grassroots and a small money campaign contributor — sick and tired of big money controlling policy to benefit the rich few.
Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

Fix the Court, no amendment needed: Every circuit judge is now also a SCOTUS justice, and all current justices assigned to a circuit. SCOTUS cases heard by panels of 13, one judge from each circuit, selected randomly. Cert granted or denied by different random panels of 13.

Same Script, Different Target

Pitiful, just pitiful
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

Why do babies need the hepatitis B vaccine if they aren’t high-risk?

I very much approve of this framing, "the power of violence". Your explanation in this video says it all.
What we are watching - as U.S. citizens are dragged out of cars and illegal war is waged in the Caribbean - is the corruption of the most sacred power we give the President - the power of violence.

We are no longer a democracy if the regime can use violence without restraint.

Bad framing: ACIP voted to scrap the universal hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for newborns.

Accurate framing: Anti-vax conspiracy theorists appointed to ACIP by Robert Kennedy Jr., who made a fortune as an anti-vax profiteer, voted to expose babies to a preventable, incurable, deadly illness.
