Starting over here after 15 years on the bird app feels hard, but it's time. There's just no way to swim in that raging cesspool and not be poisoned by it. It feels refreshing and hopeful here, for now, and I'm delighted to see some old faves I've been missing. Onwards...

Ideology as aesthetics strikes again.
@drkath.bsky.social studied this very question and found that yes Times New Roman is perceived as more conservative and sans serif fonts as more liberal- (likely because they are seen as less traditional and more modern):

That's genius rhetorical strategy. Kenneth Burke would have loved this commercial. This is a perfect example of "perspective by incongruity". It can be highly effective with resistant and/or complacent audiences.
I understand this ad is running in Texas this weekend during football games 👀

We voted blue and what we got is Schumer. I don’t see how people can’t understand that this is the biggest vote suppression, not criticism of the party.

This is a dog whistle to his followers.
He wants this to become their new demand, because they don’t know what to be angry about until he tells them. Same as “Big protest in DC on Jan 6th. Be there, will be wild.”
Same energy… Same “call” to action.

I hope you'll take a moment to hear Representative Jasmine Crockett (Democrat, Texas) explain why she voted against the bill to honor Christian Nationalist, white supremacist, and pro-theocracy activist, Charlie Kirk.

Did you know that only two of the 58 votes against the bill were caucasians?
Crockett: "I'm gonna honor someone who decided they were going to proclaim I was involved in the 'great white replacement'? Yeah, I'm not honoring that ... it's unfortunate more of my colleagues even on my side couldn't see the amount of harm this man was attempting to inflict upon our communities"

Senator Padilla was driven violently to his knees–as if made to kneel before the authority of the executive–because the administration called his questions “disrespectful”.

This should offend not just the other 99 Senators. It should offend the conscience of this country.

So Kristi Noem goes on Fox and lies that Sen Padilla didn’t ID himself, even though the video is there for all to see. But get what she’s saying: Assaulting and handcuffing someone for trying to ask a question is OK in any case? This is a criminal regime.

This matters not only as a matter of law, but in the battle for global public opinion. Everyone wants to be "preemptive," no one wants to be the source of a preventive war - and for good reason, because prevention is morally and legally a lot shakier of a rationale. /5
