The offense again declined to play all four quarters of football and for once the defense didn’t bail them out and they didn’t get lucky (with an assist from the refs). The result was a loss.

Update, I have read the first three paragraphs of the Ryan Lizza Substack and I’m now convinced this was the subtweet of that
Editors have a really hard job, and the good ones can make something unreadable readable, and the great ones can make something unreadable into something good. But they're basically invisible, until someone tries to write without one.
