I never know when or if a plate of food is going to show up from certain people's feasts on these holidays, so it makes it hard to guess when and how much to eat.
And I'm really hungry.

Yes, I have previously given in and just eaten a meal only to have one show up right after I finished.

I completely skipped the frozen entrée this year. Can't say I'm confident the frozen family option would be an improvement...

Imagine paying a large monthly fee to shop at a supermarket, then paying again for the actual groceries, then getting an extra charge months later because one ingredient in an item you bought came from a farmer associated with a different store.

This post is about healthcare.

I'm grateful that we don't have a national holiday focusing specifically on a regularly targeted component of the abuse at home: compelled gratitude (and all the punishment that entailed).
🙃

Oh, wait... 😑

I know a fair few of you are fans.

I'm still waiting for access to watch it in the first place.
Okay, the crowd going nuts like someone just scored a touchdown at the Super Bowl all *through* the KDH performance is a hell of a thing to see hear/see:

I own TOS, AU, DS9, VOY, DISCO, & SNW. I don't really care for all of TNG, (really not for ENT) but it would be nice if they had a mini collection of the most iconic episodes. I don't want the whole series. But there were some I'd love to have.
I always think this when someone uses a gif from that 1
a brick wall with the word shaka in white letters
Alt: From the iconic linguistics Star Trek: The Next Generation episode with the context language The alien commander turning to almost face the camera A brick wall below with the word SHAKA in white letters. The brick wall crumbles and then it says WHEN THE WALLS FELL.

This thread and post aside, my comment is about the second quote, the one about "saying grace".

My brain hasn't been able to do prayers for many years. Not any formal way. My brain just locks up into a stress cycle that traps me.

But this quote made me realize - I *feel* it where he *says* it.
also here are two I like very much for those gatherings where like a tasteful, moderate quantity of Jesus energy is not inappropriate

Last year I was too tired to make the candy I give out as gifts for the holiday. Took advantage of help & tried to make both the peanut butter chocolate fudge & the divinity. Forgot the vanilla & messed up the math on the fudge. That may not turn out. The divinity worked, but extra strong flavor.🫩

The human body is incredibly resilient.

You would be shocked at how sick a person can become and not die.

Chronic illness is just that… chronic.

The body adapts. It learns to cope with daily suffering. Your baseline shifts and your reality changes.

My brain being so extra tired means I keep deciding people are talking too much, but phrase association turns that into, "You're talkin' a lot. Show me what you got. Stop - swing.... 🎶I don't dance...🎶" (around the 2 min mark)

over & over

The kind of people willing to trust LLMs are the same ones who think that being asked for advice means you've just surrendered your free will and are now obligated to do what they said instead of weighing it as food for thought towards *your* final decision. 🤨

Things I'm learning while not taking the super b- complex.

It apparently increased my hunger.
& I was right abt the increased food intake boosting my functional energy levels.

Crash: ⬇️ appetite ➡️ less food ➡️ worse functioning/ faster deterioration

That's why "Feed the crash" is one of my rules.

That only works in a logic that says that "human" excludes anyone not "cishet Christian healthy wealthy white male privilege." No one else can be covered in that zero sum logic. If they don't get all the rights to do whatever they want to anyone & anything, *their* "human" rights are being infringed

We're none of them paying attention to the many TV eps across many series addressing this very question? A computer program trained to mimic human responses based on the patterns taken from vast quantities of human interactions is still just a computer program. Not a sentient living intelligence.

This is a point that needs repeating. It’s fiscally conservative to house the homeless, it’s also the right thing to do.
Anderson Cooper: So it's more expensive to have a chronically homeless person living on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?

Answer: Yes, we’re paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street and do nothing… #HousingFirst

As always, wise words and excellent examples.
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

This reminds me of Cardinal John Henry Newman's book Definition of a Gentleman. I often cite Newman's book because it's so instructive. The term gentleman is so overwrought and frequently abused, but to the degree it means anything at all, I think Newman captures it here:
