Fun loving misanthrope and occasional freelance subversive sifting through our collective cultural entrails looking for a good time.
Mother of Flies, despite its low budget, is an incredible folk horror film. I absolutely love the gorgeous outdoor shots it contains and the manner in which the Adams family depicts ritual as something challenging and immensely painful. The sound design is also pretty impressive.

Kier-La Janisse's The Occupant of the Room adaptation of Algernon Blackwood's original short story is excellent! I loved how she ups the tension through the use of abstract animation towards the end. gizmodo.com/the-occupant...

221/1000:
THE TRIAL

Orson Welles' visually surrealistic film had me both captivated and mesmerized, so I ended up with mixed reactions after seeing this. This unusual film about an unassuming office guy accused of a never-known offense is a challenging yet good watch.

What makes the passing of actors like Udo Kier extra poignant is that he was a reminder of a career film industries across countries and on multiple levels no longer exist to support. The vagabond weirdo who can show up in Criterion Collection darlings and DTV sequels, and be the best part of both.

Looks like, in addition to BBC's Ghost Stories for Christmas adapting E.F. Benson's The Room in the Tower, we're getting The Occupant of the Room by Algernon Blackwood adapted via Shudder this holiday season. I love to see classic weird authors get their due. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUv-...
