Podcast journalist, editor, train nerd, unapologetically trans and queer. Will likely rant about a movie or Discworld at some point. Ride or die physical media defender. 35 (they/them).
Anyway I ordered the Captive Prince trilogy off eBay so the hypothetical person who sees my bookshelf can even more quickly pass judgement on me.

Calling authors petit bourgeoisie is indeed insane. We are artisans and we deserve to profit from our labor.

That said, digital piracy has never been shown to represent actual lost sales, and may in fact DRIVE sales. I think authors should cool out about it.
We’re not small business owners, ffs - we’re independent contractors, and we are routinely robbed by the world’s dumbest dingbats.

I am gently but firmly taking the word "rotoscope" away from the Smiling Friends fandom and putting it on a high shelf for a few months. The poor thing needs a break.

I really wish stories like this got WAY more traction than they do.

Steam banned this game for release FOR TWO YEARS, with no clear direction and communication to the devs as to the issues, content or concerns.

Meanwhile, everyone and their mother reported on Gabe's new yacht
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...

I need a movie where Geoffrey Rush and Bill Nighy play an odd couple who bicker constantly.

It'd make so little money at the box office but it'd be the most engaging thing you've ever watched.

The other day I found a sock I got from a Yik Yak rep at a collegiate journalism conference.

His whole point of being there was to talk college writers into installing Yik Yak to keep track of what was happening on campus by giving them socks with the logo. Didn't mention Colgate, funnily enough.

If a donut is not prepared at that location that day, I don't care.

It's either fresh or Entenmanns, there is no in between.

Reminder that the last time he was on JRE talking about how good Grok is at talking shit with the safeties turned off, he tried it out live on the episode and Grok started defending trans women.

I'll never forget Rogan quietly saying "Interesting... it's sounding kind of woke."
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

Webcomic artist in 2012: This is my series Richard Weinerman. A workplace office comedy about an anthropomorphic hot dog who does not understand sexual innuendo.

That artist in 2025: Roxx Weinerman transitioned during lockdown, straining but ultimately saving her marriage. She's a line cook now.

Here's a hot Wizard of Oz (1939) take for ya:

It'd be a better movie if Kansas was in color when Dorothy wakes up. Whether Oz was real or not, it changed her perspective on life to the point it's not monochromatic.

I can't get over how that Fox Christian podcast fucked things up SO BAD by simply not sending a letter.

All they had to do was be like "hey, celebrities, we've acquired that New Testament audiobook you did 15 years ago. We're going to [bullshit about "give it new life] as an audio drama!"

I cannot recommend Man I Just Wanna Go Home enough. It has all the mechanical creature comforts of a choose-your-own-adventure you actually WANT to replay several times to chase down alternate paths. All with some of the most painstakingly, lovingly-rendered artwork you'll see in a game this year.
I need to constantly post something about the stuff that I'm making not having a publisher SUCKS social media management will be the death of me leave a review for Man I Just Wanna Go Home if you've enjoyed it it bumps it in the steam queue or something repost pls love you bye

A movie spanning eighty years depicting a kind of man who can't exist anymore. Someone who grew up cutting trees with an axe only to be put out of work by chainsaws. He watches people lose connection with nature in real time and it's heartbreaking. letterboxd.com/gavingwhiz/f...

The death of generational wealth.

A house is no longer a reflection of yourself, it's a reflection of equity you can hopefully sell. Reflections of the hope that the *next* buyer sees a home's "potential."

Except nobody can realize potential any more. Blank canvases sold to artists without paint.

JFK was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone.
My first political memory - exactly 62 years ago right now, a 4-year-old boy trying to understand his mom's tears - is still the biggest event in my lifetime. We still (IMO) don't *really* know who killed JFK, but we know the public's trust was shattered. It's a straight line to today's mess

You need to get in on Bladelands now, Sarah's minicomics give brainworms in the best way possible and this one will not disappoint.
This is the thread for my minicomic, Into the Bladelands! I will be posting updates of anywhere from 2-4 pages here, hopefully to be finished before the end of the year.

Sky disappears. Ari gets left behind. Five years later, the door to the Bladelands opens again.

I need to reflect on what counts as kindness and how one can truly belong before I can talk about this at length. Go see it. I've cried twice thinking about since I left the theater.
