Exactly. There's must-pass funding legislation going through Congress right now. If Tillis et al. aren't willing to put a Greenland condition on that bill, this is all cheap talk. (And Dems need to be pushing Republicans by insisting on conditions to stop Minnesota-type abuses.)
This man could demand the Senate take action on Monday to, e.g., bar the expenditure of funds for the use of U.S. military force in Greenland. Will he support such legislation or not? This nonsense pretense that quiet-conversations-among-serious-men-can-manage-the-mad-king has just got to stop.

Plenty of other things to panic about. Birth rates aren't one of them.
Instead of worrying about birth rates in 100 years — THINK OF HOW LONG JANUARY 2026 HAS BEEN — consider we have half a chance to survive partly *because* of our low birth rates, because kids are expensive and time consuming and there is work to do. A lot is going to change. Don't panic.

Respectfully, leaving abusive situations is not “letting the abuser win”. It’s a common, but deeply problematic way to frame any kind of abusive or hostile environment. “Just keeping taking the abuse” is deeply misogynistic

Dear IPUMS ATUS Data User,
Next Monday (July 28) is the last day to submit a comment to the Federal Register notice proposing an extension to the American Time Use Survey (ATUS). This is a standard notice that is required to continue fielding the survey and an important opportunity to demonstrate the value and widespread use of these unique data. Use our template as a starting point, or draft your own comment to submit describing the importance of the ATUS and how you use the data in your work.
We are also sharing a recording of a rapid response data briefing hosted by the Population Reference Bureau, Association of Public Data Users, and dataindex.us. The briefing covers why it is important for members of the research community to respond to this type of Federal Register notice and helpful considerations for writing a response.

The Supreme Court’s “shadow docket” has cast very different shadows depending on which party holds the White House.

Agree + we need from Democrats viral outreach about the positive outcomes government services and programs provide to people. Not the "Reagan Lite" offered during/post-Reagan.

Essentially, Reagan gave us distrust in government, plus deregulation, plus belief in the benevolence of billionaires, plus trickle-down economics, plus precarity, plus scapegoats fueled by racist and sexist stereotypes.
