The University of Cologne plans drastic cuts to its Political Science department, potentially abolishing the MSc in Political Science and eliminating the professorships in IR and Comparative Politics. This would severely weaken the social sciences at @unicologne.bsky.social.

🤔 The #EU 🇪🇺 aspires to be a global actor 🌍 — but do other states recognize it as such?

My new study in @intlinteractions.bsky.social develops targeted #NLP / #TextAsData tools to analyze 50 years of foreign policy discourse in the annual #UN General Debate (1970–2020).

So I crossed the border from Germany to France today and the journey took around 30 minutes longer than I was used to cause we had to go through border checks. This is now a daily routine for commuters living in the German border regions.

Super happy to see this paper now in print! We show that parties which do not enter coalitions, but have formal (written) support agreements with minority cabinets- such as Tidö Agreement in Sweden - are likely to be punished at the next elections, similarly to junior coalition partners.

Always have a healthy dose of scepticism on Eurobarometer polls. But they are very good comparable between themselves, and it is remarkable to see the EU back to levels of trust from before the many crises of the 2010s and 2020s hit Europe.

From Bluesky to the Guardian!

In my new op-Ed, I argue that the “male glaze” of media and politics is empirically, normative, and politically wrong and that progressives should focus more on the left turn of young women.
The real story isn’t young men supposedly voting far right. It’s what young women are up to | Cas Mudde

This obsession is with “young men turning to the right” is everything that is wrong with the discussion about the far right.

It is not just an inadequate read of what is happening, and a bias towards the male norm, but it also normalizes the far right and obscures support for inclusive politics. 🧵
